I remember playing with those colourful little building blocks when I was a kid. Decades on and Lego has become quite an exclusive toys for kids (and adults alike?). A sizeable set of Lego costs nothing less than a hundred, and now with all kinds of shapes and sizes of Lego on the shelves, some even cost half a thousand dollars! I do wonder why these stuff have to be so expensive. Is it because you could potentially make stuff like these?

What I was able to make with Lego is pictured below. Yeah, that’s my proudest creation out of Lego because I’m just terrible at making things, building blocks included. If I were a kid right now, I can imagine why my parents would think it’s a big waste of money to spend hundreds on a Lego set just so that I can build this to show off my work of art.

I swear this would be my best work at Lego!
Obviously, as with everthing good and popular, there will be followers offering the same product a lot less since it is considered less branded. I’ve found cheaper alternatives to Lego, a brand of which I don’t even recall. But it doesn’t matter to me nor my 1-year old toddler because he’s not quite into building fantastic things out of these blocks just yet.
But I foresee my boy to be more creative and better at handiwork than me (or so I hope). So would I spend a couple hundreds on a Lego set then to see him make up impressive race cars and moving trucks and things like the ones below?

At this very moment, I would say no. I still feel that it’s a little too expensive and if there are alternatives offering the same fun for less, I would rather go for those.
If you are a Lego fan, than you might want to turn up for the big sale of up to 40% at Toys R Us at KLCC that starts today. Go knock yourself out with all those building blocks!

hehe … i am one of those suckers out there who are attracted to Lego. Maybe because we could not afford them when I was young. Buying them now makes me feel like I am providing something good to my kids …. but then, I am a sucker la …
As long as you’re enjoying them as much as your kids, I guess it’s money well spent. I’m sure you’re not the only one who are so keen….so you’re not the lone “sucker” for sure!
