I believe there are many of us who feel for others who are less fortunate than ourselves and it has shown that our society is very giving and generous to those who need it most. So this Valentine’s Day, what say you to give to those in need, and do so in honour of your loved one?
World Vision, a global NGO that sees strong participation from many individuals who come together to support worthy causes, has been running a campaign called World Vision Gifts of Hope. This is a campaign to help raise funds for several countries where help is needed to help a child get education, food, shelter, clean drinking water, etc. There are many different causes in which you can sponsor in very affordable amounts.
Since it’s Valentine’s Day, for each gift of hope that you sponsor, you will receive a gift card that you can present to your loved one, and on it you can tell him or her about the gift you have given in his or her honour. This not only shows your love for your special someone to do a good cause in his or her name, it also means a lot to the ones who are reaching out for our help.
From the Gifts of Hope catalogue, you can choose to sponsor school uniforms at RM20 or children’s workbooks at RM25, or even sponsor an emergency medical insurance for RM50. There are many good causes to choose from, and you can participate in as many as you wish.
If you’re one of those couples who have given countless gifts to each other year in and year out, and just can’t find anything different to give each other, why not give this gift of hope as a different gesture this Valentine’s Day? I’m sure we’ve very much outgrown feeling only loved and thrilled by a material gift, and would be equally happy with a meaningful gift such as this. If you feel that this isn’t enough gesture to show your love on Valentine’s Day, you can also consider giving your special Valentine a nice and relaxing spa package. Best still if you can both indulge in it together, as per my previous gift suggestion of a romantic couple spa as a great way to spend time together.
