Hi there! If you're new here, and enjoy what you're reading, you can subscribe to my feed. Thanks for visiting!
I had the urge on binge on some junk food and I went shopping for crisps and chocolates. Since my favourite crisps weren’t on the shelves at the supermarket I was shopping in, I decided to give something new a try. What caught my eye was Twisties’ new crisps, called Twisties Lurve.

The Twisties Lurve chips is supposedly a healthy chips line by Twisties. It is a healthy multigrain chips and in its own words, Twisties has this to say about this line of crisps:
“We mill and mash the goodness of wheat, oats, rice, corn and sunflower seeds into perfect wavy chips. Then we add just the right sprinkle of special flavours harvested from exotic locations around the globe. It’s all made with Lurve.”
A small pack (45g) of this chips cost me RM2.50. This is rather expensive against other locally made chips but then again this is supposed to be multigrain and therefore, healthier chips. You do pay the price for healthier things, even if it means a “healthier” pack of junk food!
How did I like the Twisties Lurve French Onion flavour? Well actually not much. I couldn’t even finish a small pack. I found it a bit too salty and creamy after eating just half the pack. I couldn’t make myself eat anymore. It is a rather heavy crisp compared to crisps like Mister Potato or even Cottage Fries.
Curious about the acclaimed healthier ingredients used, I read the label and here’s what it says on the bag of chips:
- Whole oats flour, corn flour, palm oil, whole wheat flour, rice flour, sugar, salt, milk products (from cow), sunflower seeds, onion powder and spices (contains mustard).
- Contains permitted flavouring substances (contains soybean and milk), acidity regulators (E262, E270, E330) and anticaking agent (E551) as permitted food conditioners.
- Contains monosodium glutamate (E621) as permitted flavour enhancer.
- Contains ingredients from wheat, oats, soybean, milk and mustard.
- May contain traces of crustaceas, eggs, fish, celery and sesame.
- Contains permitted food additives or non-animal origin except milk.
Does that sound healthy enough for you? Healthy or not, I don’t think I’ll go for it again because I didn’t like the taste and texture of it. Whilst this may be my poison, it could be your meat. So don’t take my word for it if you are a die-hard crisp fan. You might just enjoy it. It does remind me of tortilla chips, except that Twisties Lurve is tastier and heavier. Dare I even add that it’s healthier? Nah, I won’t go that far to claim so…
