If you walk about the malls, there are all sorts of vendors who promote their products as Valentine’s Day gifts and I found some of them to be rather different. Amidst all the sweet and lovely gifts of chocolates and candies, jewelries, music CDs, lingerie, etc, I found amongst them who are promoting spectacles, tv stands and even electrical items. Seems a bit far fetched but hey they do make quite practical gifts for someone who really needs them.

So what did you get your loved ones and what did you get in return? Sometimes it’s really the thought that counts, whether it’s a little gesture like cooking your loved ones a special meal, taking him or her out for a great day, giving a self made gift or buying an inexpensive gift,it all represents loving thoughts, isn’t it?

A heart locket is a very romantic gift for Valentine’s Day. Slip in a photo or two and remind your loved one of your everlasting love for each other, forever locked in the heart locket.

You can find a locket for your loved one in many forms. They can come in a pendant, a charm on a bracelet, a keyring like the above or simply a pocket locket.

It is not easy to find lockets, as many jewelry shops and goldsmiths don’t offer them or do not carry much varieties. I’m not sure why heart lockets are not common in Malaysia, but they make such sweet gifts. So if you are able to find a locket for your loved one, I’m sure she’ll cherish it with all her heart.

If you do a quick search on the internet for lockets for sale in Malaysia, you will find some sites on eBay that sells them. Most of these sellers are not in Malaysia, so shipping may be necessary, but I don’t think shipping will cost that much for a small locket.

Alternatively, you can visit some novelty carts or stalls in shopping malls (try Ikano and Mid Valley carts that sell accessories, jewelries or stainless steel products) or even the weekend markets at The Curve and Mont Kiara. They carry some of the more interesting gifts that many branded and more popular chain outlets don’t offer. Also, you may want to try some shops like Tous and Risis to see if they have lockets.

Besides slipping in a special photo, you can also engrave your special message on the Valentine locket. It’s such a simple but meaningful gift. I feel every girl should have a special locket with her special someone.

Digital photo frames are quite popular albeit a bit pricy. Depending on the brand and size of the frame that you choose, it can range from RM300++ to RM800++. The good news is that some places do installment plans for this cool digital photo frame and if they are at zero interest, it’s really a worthwhile deal! (Hint where to find them on installment plan: I remember seeing these at Fotokem and Jusco)

I have one as a gift and I tell you, it’s truly wonderful! You can display as many photos as you wish digitally in slideshow style, watch movies on it, listen to songs, or simply use other features like the calendar, screensaver, clock, etc. What’s required to run this wonderful gadget is a power outlet (good thing you don’t need to run this on batteries!) and a thumb drive.

Just save your pictures/movies/songs in your thumb drive, then plug it onto the digital photo frame and you’ll be proudly displaying all your happy moments for all to see. Whether you display it in the office or at home, it’s sure to be something that everyone will want a piece of!

What you may want to do to customise this as a Valentine gift is to pre-load a USB flash drive or thumb drive with special pictures, a special song that you two share, his favourite movie, etc. Give him the thumb drive along with the digital photo frame so that he’s able to enjoy all that special previews you’ve prepared for him on his new and cool gadget.

If you are keen to shop for one of these, you can head out to most IT gadget outlets (try Low Yat Plaza or one of those IT hypermarts in Ikano and Cineleisure), photo shops and even departmental stores like Jusco. Shop around to find the best deal because the pricing can be quite varied amongst vendors.
