It’s already mid September, and this year I thought of starting the year end shopping early. By that, I mean to shop for Christmas presents. Year after year I tend to spend quite a fair bit because some gifts are last minute purchases and when you really run out of ideas what to buy, you just buy what you see because you are desperate. And these are the expensive purchases versus the ones well planned earlier.

I’m also thinking what will be cute gifts for under the tree this year to make it all lively and colourful. My son loved last year’s Christmas deco we had. It was his first time helping to put up the tree and he had a ball of a time. I don’t think we’ll buy more Christmas tree decos this time, we’ll just re-use the ones we bought last year.

How about you? When do you shop for festive gifts? Way in advance of when the time comes?

Father’s Day is fast approaching. Anybody has any great ideas to share on what kind of gifts will be great for the day? I’ve slacked over the years in doing gift suggestions, so now I’m in the mode of asking for recommendations to be shared by others instead.

The more practical the gift ideas, the better. Guys are known to be the more practical species, so I think they’d appreciate things they need. I sometimes think it’s much harder to find meaningful gifts for the lads than the ladies. What do you think?

I did a search on the internet using just “father’s day gifts” and a lot of gift sites came back with some not so practical nor suitable ideas for me. I got some for electric cigarettes, golf storage cases, beer and booze holsters and personalised stepping stones for the garden.

Quite cool ideas if you ask me, not certainly not something we could use…anyone has any hand made ideas? Those will be great too!

With Raya coming in just 3 weeks, most people are in festive moods to shop, shop and shop by now. Even those who aren’t celebrating are also keen to shop because the sales and shopping crowd just have that temptation and momentum that you can’t easily resist, right?

I guess this must be our version of the American Black Friday where we start shopping for the holidays. If you don’t already know what a Black Friday is, you can always read it here on Wiki. It would be really nice to get a day off from work to shop like how they have it in the US, won’t it?

I haven’t shopped in quite a while but I always look forward to shopping at the end of the year when Christmas comes around. I find the colours, atmosphere and holiday mood tend to make me feel like a shopaholic which is very bad for the purse! Now that it’s already September, Christmas is just 3 months away. It’s not that long more to go. Gotta start cracking for ideas for Christmas gifts.

Do you remember the days when your dad brought you to the cinemas for movies when you were little and how thrilling those outings used to be? Well, now that you are all grown up, how about you bringing dad to the movies on Father’s Day? I bet it’s been a while since any of us have really brought dad out for a movie. What’s more, you can even get your movie tickets for free at GSC cineplexes at Tropicana City Mall in Petaling Jaya! I saw this free movie screening info here. Watching a good movie together helps to bring people together and create a closer bond. And you will have that movie to talk about for days or even weeks after watching it. I took a quick glance at the selected movies that are screening for free and I saw a few good ones like Slumdog Millionaire and Ip Man. Whilst one of them is an award winner, the other has been highly acclaimed. Do check out the rest of the movies offered.

If you are going to the movies in a bigger group than just you and dad, all the merrier! So pick a movie that everyone will enjoy, and get some healthy snacks to boot. Popcorns and softdrinks may be good for you but remember to pick out healthier options for your dad (and mum if she’s joining too). Remember that too much of these sweet snacks can sometimes be the cause of people going for some of the supposedly best diet pills in the market.

So how do you like this idea of a free movie with dad? He might just love the idea, especially if it’s been ages since he’s gone to the movies!

Father’s Day is approaching, it’s this Sunday, folks! Have you gotten anything for dear dad yet? Well I know I’m falling behind on my Father’s Day gift idea series but I’m trying to catch up. So here’s another gift suggestion for dad this Father’s Day. Why not let him have a cool GPS device from Garmin?

Of course giving dad a GPS device does not mean he doesn’t know his way around or that he needs direction badly. It’s just a very useful device for the times when he needs to go some place unfamiliar to him.

Apart from being a device that helps to navigate, the Garmin GPS device is also a great reference point for places of interests. We often have trouble thinking where to eat whenever we’re eating out and we just fish out the GPS and hunt down the food places. A list of good places to eat pop up almost instantaneously and we’re spoilt for choice! Even if it’ some place we don’t know how to get to, it’s not a problem because the device will bring you right to it.

The device also comes with some warning system like speed traps or police road blocks. We’ve had that flashed on our mobile GPS system, but many a time we found that the police road block warnings weren’t true. But still, better to have false alarm than to run into trouble.
