Every year I look forward to the big Body Shop sale. This year’s sale is starting today!

This once a year Body Shop sale that offers discounts up to 70% offers its members an additional 10% on already discounted items. All you need to do if you are a Body Shop member is to show your MyKad to grab the additional discounts. This exclusive members sales will be on only for the first 3 days, from 22 May till 24 May.

Otherwise, this sale is good to last from 22 May up to 14 June. But I do suggest that you go early on during the start of the sales if you want to grab nice stuff. I have been going almost every year and I managed to grab some really good products for less than RM20 for a 250ml bottle of product!

Updated: During my lunch hour today I dropped by one of the Body Shop outlets. It was packed and the crowd queueing to pay was simply amazing. It was in a zig-zagged row and although I was keen to check out the sale, I wasn’t keen to wait in queue. Furthermore, after a quick glance, I found that the skincare range I wanted to stock up on wasn’t much on sale, just 10%. So I skipped the sale.

Since using the Body Shop Vitamin C skincare range agrees with me, I decided to give the Body Shop Vitamin E range a try. Actually, it’s not my first time using the Vitamin E range from Body Shop, I started with using the Vitamin E Moisture Serum some time back. This time, I purchased the vitamin E Hydrating Toner and Moisture Cream and here are some of my thoughts on the products.

Review of the Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner

This toner retails for RM45 and comes in a 200ml bottle, which is actually about half the price of many branded toners from the cosmetic counters.

I am pretty happy with this toner as it feels refreshing and the vitamin E range carries a mild rose scent to its products which suit my liking. It is alcohol free, another of my criteria when searching for a toner.

I find the toner alright, pretty much like many other toners I’ve used. There wasn’t any outstanding effects to it, but like I mentioned earlier, I do like the refreshing scent to it.

One thing I noticed about this toner though is that it feels like I’m finishing it faster than my other toners. I’m not sure what the cause is. It just feels like I’m not getting the cotton soaked with enough toner, therefore I need to use more of it. Not sure if it’s the quality of the cotton or the toner!

But generally, I would think it is an average product. I didn’t notice anything exceptionally good, neither did it have any adverse effects. But for the affordable price of it plus it is a rather reputable brand that uses natural products (and therefore a hypoallergenic product, I hope), I think it is quite a reasonable product.

Will I use it again? I wouldn’t mind since I have not found any star toners out there.

Review of the Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream retails for RM54 for a 50ml tub. The texture of the moisture cream is rather thick and creamy. It does absorb quite easily onto the skin, but much like the toner, I feel that I need to use quite a bit of the cream and therefore it finishes very fast.

I personally feel that the Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream did not do much to moisturise my skin. I’m not sure if it’s because my skin type is not suited to use moisture cream as opposed to moisturising gels, because I find that the latter works better for me no matter the brand used. So it could well be that the cream is just not right for me.

There are two versions of this vitamin E moisture cream offered at Body Shop. The other one is a more intensive and rich moisture cream. I didn’t try that as I thought a normal moisturising cream is sufficient for me. But seeing that it didn’t really work for me, who knows, that richer one could have been a better option.

I’ve read many glowing reviews of the Body Shop’s Vitamin C Skin Boost from beauty blogs, and even had a friend recommend it to me. I bought it for my mum to try and she confirmed that it showed some positive results on her just shortly after using it. I felt rather convinced that this product works wonders but I didn’t get to try it on myself until just about a week ago.

How did I find it? I absolutely love it! This is how Vitamin C Skin Boost works:

• Antioxidant vitamin C brightens skin, encourages collagen production, improves elasticity, and works along with skin-softening vitamin E to protect skin from environmental aggressors.

• Refreshing essential oils of grapefruit and orange help to balance and revive the senses.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost has a very pleasant orange/citrus scent to it and comes in a gel form, and is very light in texture. It applies very easily on the skin. In fact, I find it absorbing a bit too quickly on the skin. If you were to rub the gel between your fingers before applying on your face, you will find that you won’t be left with much to apply. So after pumping out the gel, I apply it directly to the face and gently spread it all over.

One of the results that many reviewers have experienced is the radiance that they see on their skin. For me, I don’t know if I was imagining it but in the first week that I was using it, I thought I saw a small glow of rosy cheeks! And I don’t wear make up at all, so it couldn’t have been the blusher. But then again, if you say it was the reflection of the soft light from the vanity table, well I won’t put up a fight. It could well have been, because I don’t see that rosy cheeks any longer.

One result that I felt for sure is that my skin actually feels softer not long after using it. I use it twice a day, once in the morning and once in the night. On a cleansed face, and after applying toner and my Body Shop Vitamin C Eye Reviver, I apply this Vitamin C Skin Boost. The moisturiser and sun block comes after it.

It’s quite a pricy product, at RM79 a bottle. But I find that it’s quite worth the money as a facial serum as compared to many other serums I’ve tried from cosmetic and skin care counters. I will definitely continue using this skin boost as well as the eye reviver. I simply love Body Shop’s Vitamin C skin care products!

Actually, the Vitamin C range is not the only skin care range that I like from Body Shop. I’ve also started using its Vitamin E skin care products and I enjoy them too. I’ll write more about these products soon.

I ran out of eye creams and I’ve wanted to try something new. I was contemplating between Benefit’s Eyecon and the Body Shop Vitamin C Eye Reviver for a couple of weeks. I finally decided to go with the Vitamin C Eye Reviver because I’ve read so many great reviews about the Vitamin C Skin Boost and I thought this eye product of theirs could do wonders too.

I was very happy with the Body Shop sales assistant who spent the time to teach me how to use the eye cream properly to care for the skin as well as to gain maximum benefits from this product. I wrote about the tips that she shared with me here.

One of the reasons why I chose this vitamin C product is also because vitamin C is supposed to be a good antioxidant that helps to protect the skin against environmental damages like pollution and harmful rays. With regular use, vitamin C also promotes skin radiance.

This gel cream is very light in texture and is non-greasy. It absorbs easily into the skin and is recommended to be used twice a day, one in the daytime and once at night. It is to be applied on a cleansed face, after using a toner. As with all eye creams, a small drop of this cream is sufficient. Gently tap the cream onto the lower and upper areas around the eyes. Don’t rub the cream into skin. You will know why by reading the tip shared in the above link of my previous post.

I haven’t used this cream for that long, but just after a few days, I do see a difference in my eyes. They sure look a little more radiant! Before, people used to comment that my eyes look tired but now, they feel rather brilliant!

This Body Shop Vitamin C Eye Reviver comes in a bottle of 15ml and retails for RM69.90. Quite a reasonable price compared to many of the eye creams in the market. This is also another reason why I decided to go for it instead of Benefit’s Eyecon. Since it works for me, I see no reason why I should be switching eye creams in the future.

A little more about Body Shop

Since I’ve bought quite a number of stuff from Body Shop so far, I’ve also become a member of Body Shop. To become a member, you just need to spend RM100 and above and you will be given a free for life membership. They do not issue you any membership card, instead your identity card will be used. Each time you spend at any Body Shop outlets, your transactions will be recorded. With a spend of RM300 in a duration of 6 months, you are entitled to a shopping voucher of RM35. However, the accummulation of this RM300 purchase is only valid every 6 months, and is not valid to be carried forward.

I recently have become quite a Body Shop fan in terms of their skincare range. I was hunting for a facial scrub and ended up with Body Shop’s Seaweed Pore-Cleansing Facial Exfoliator. I was contemplating between this and the Tea Tree Oil Facial Exfoliator. I found the latter’s microbeads to be a little too fine and was doubting that it can effectively exfoliate my problem area that’s blackhead-prone. At the same time, I didn’t want big, harsh mircrobeads too.

The scrub contains Community Trade seaweed from Ireland, jojoba beads and olive stone granuals. This scrub is suitable for use on combination to oily skin, and it’s gel-based. I’ve developed a liking for gel-based exfoliators. I find them easier to apply on the face. It is soap-free and is said to be effective in deep cleansing blocked pores. I like the gentle and fresh scent of this scrub too. I also like the fact that it doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry and tight after use.

This exfoliator retails for RM45 for a 75ml tube. Initially, I did find it a little on the expensive side seeing that it’s a rather small tube. However, upon use, I found that I didn’t need to use a lot of it for a full-face scrub. So it remains to be seen how long this scrub will last me and it might just be worth the money. Effectiveness wise, so far it’s doing its job rather well.
