2010 The year of the Tiger by sarahfe 203x300 Any special Chinese New Year customary purchases?

It’s the eve of Chinese New Year, so here’s wishing all my Chinese readers and friends a Happy Chinese New Year and may the Year Of The Tiger bring you much abundance in every aspect of your life!

Lots of Chinese believe in feng shui and energy works. Are you one of them? If so, have you done any special shopping for customary things for the coming Year Of The Tiger?

I know of friends who would buy feng shui books and then read up on what the year holds for them and they act accordingly to what’s best going forward so that they have a great and smooth year ahead. There are quite a handful of such feng shui masters’ books out there, namely the most popular by Lilian and Jennifer too, and of course not missing the rising Joey Yap. Who are your favourite authors in this area?

I once bought a book for the new year but I am not the type who would go for the hard sell like buying whatever amulets and what-have-yous as recommended by the feng shui books. If I do, I find that there’s just too many stuff I need to get on a monthly basis since the “fortune telling” goes month by month in those kind of books.

What about you? Have you read any predictions, free or otherwise, about your year? I’d admit it’s nice to read about it, especially when they say good things going on for you month after month. And sure, it’s tempting to go get the things they recommend so that you avoid the not too good months.

Some predictions can be quite over the board though, not only predicting the general business, luck and love life of a particular Chinese zodiac sign, they can even tell you to do specific things like when is a good time to go for mortgage refinancing, what kind of investments to go into, when to get married, etc. I would think this kind of predictions don’t work in general for every zodiac, but rather needs more tailoring from individual to individual.

Whatever you believe in, I wish you a great Year of the Tiger ahead. Gong xi fa cai!!
