Recently some friends and I decided to try out the famous nasi lemak from Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Kampung Baru at its new outlet at Ampang Park in the heart of KL city. The original Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa is located at Kampung Baru and is said to be very delicious.
So with the new outlet which is more accessible to us, we decided to pay a visit to see for ourselves if it’s really as good as it is said to be. One of my friends has been to the original outlet and was rather impressed with the set up of this newly opened outlet in Ampang Park. They even had their mugs and cups printed with their restaurant brand name.
There are not many tables as the outlet is rather small. Just a little over 10 tables and each table is quite small. It’s a sit-down service and I have to say the service is not bad. I hope they will keep up with it and not dwindle after they’ve been around for some time. After all, they’re charging customers 10% of the food bill for service charge.
How’s the food? Well it’s not bad and I enjoyed it. Sorry no pictures taken as I wasn’t armed with my camera. It’s just like any other ordinary nasi lemak, but I love the coconut milk fragrant rice. It’s served warm and I like the fact that the rice is not all clumped together in big chunks. The sambal is quite good, but after a few spoonfuls, I found it to be rather sweet. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it till the very last drop anyway.
A basic nasi lemak comes with the rice, sambal, 2 slices of cucumber, half an hard boiled egg with peanuts and anchovies. This basic nasi lemak costs RM2.35.
There are add-ons like beef and chicken rendang, sambal sotong, etc. Each of these add-ons cost RM4.95. You can also choose to add on eggs and anchovies but I found the prices of these add-ons to be rather expensive. There’s also an assortment of drinks available from calamansi to syrup to iced tea and coffee, etc. I found these drinks to be rather expensive also, ranging from RM2.45 a glass to RM3.55.
Overall, whilst I found the nasi lemak to be alright, I have to say that the price is rather expensive. Will I go back? Maybe. When I feel like having a hot plate of nasi lemak and feel a bit generous to pay the price for it.
