Recommended tailor in Bangkok

by Penny on November 13, 2008

A friend recently asked for a recommended tailor in Bangkok since she’ll be heading there very soon. That jogged my memory of my last trip to Bangkok two years ago, where we found a good tailor called Ambassador Tailor. It is strategically located in the Sukhumvit Road area, where The Ambassador Bangkok Hotel is (the shop is within the premise of the hotel). It is easily accessible by taxi and it is just a short walk away from the Nana BTS station.

Ambassador Tailor has a variety of fabrics to offer. It has an array of materials suitable to tailor make formal or working suits for both men and women. We selected fabrics of average quality to make our work shirts and suits. On average, a pair of suit cost us about RM300++ which is a steal compared to what you will be quoted here for the same kind of fabric. I made several dress shirts that came with double cuffs (for cufflinks) and they were embroided with my initials as well. Each of those shirts cost me about RM60++. A made-to-measure pencil skirt with inner lining cost me just RM60++. Needless to say, I am very happy with the prices we got. But then again, these prices were negotiated based on quite a large order that we placed.

Quality wise, we were also quite happy with the workmanship and service. Service was rather fast. We were only there for a 4-day vacation and within that short period, we managed to have all our orders fulfilled albeit a little on the rush side. The tailor who dealt with us was very helpful in showing us the different kinds of fabrics and explaining what designs and cuts would suit the types of materials we chose.

We were also promptly called back for fitting sessions before the final product was completed and handed to us. These fitting sessions are important, because any mistakes or required changes can then be easily rectified rather than having to re-make the finished product. So be sure to ask for fitting sessions although they may seem a hassle in between your busy schedule during the trip.

Ambassador Tailor is also open to shipping your orders to you. You can ask about shipping charges and how it can be arranged. Who knows, if your order is large enough, you may even be able to negotiate for free shipping! But that’s just my own assumptions. We have placed additional orders with the tailor when we left Bangkok and requested for them to send the finished products to our friends’ local address in Bangkok. They gladly did it for us at no additional cost.

There are many tailoring services in Bangkok and you may even find many whose rates are cheaper than Ambassador Tailor. We have found several in the same area, but we were not convinced of the quality. In the end we decided to pay a little bit more (but still a lot less than tailoring back here) and get good quality suits with Ambassador Tailor.

Savilerow Fashion is a first-class tailoring business that has been making suits and clothes. They deliver made-to-measure suits, shirts, and trousers, as well as other garments. You can choose your fabric and let savile row give you that look and fit you’ve always wanted, all at excellent prices, with quick turnaround and worldwide delivery options.
I last shopped at Savile row Fashion Bangkok and thought they were absolutely awful. However I have had to have a change of heart- they were the only people to actually have gotten what I want. The staff is very helpful and friendly as well- I never found asking them a question a chore, as a matter of fact they went out of their way to help me! The stores are nice and clean and airy- unlike some shops I have been to. The prices are actually quite pleasing- hell. I will definitely be going to savilerow again.contact savilerowfashion@gmail.com. They are also among top 5 bangkok tailor.

I usually use the service of Excelsior opposite Meredien. Good quality and world class service.Have recommended the full price court company to them and all of them have been happy. For medium range shirts are around 850 Baht and suit around 5000 Baht. Most of clothes bought from them are still in good shape till date.

I bought an outstanding tropical weight white dinner jacket and it cost a little over $250 and a linen blue blazer last year for about $200. 100% custom linen dress shirts run about $50. The quality at Pro tailor is very good and the turnaround time is amazing
