Puchi puchi

by Penny on February 24, 2008

Last month I went to Japan for a holiday. Before I left, my colleagues placed their shopping orders for puchi puchi. Puchi puchi in Japanese means bubble wrap. But no, they did not ask me to buy them bubble wraps literally. It’s a new toy in Japan.

The craze for puchi puchi in Japan started since its launch sometime in middle of 2007. Puchi puchi is a digital bubble wrap. So for those who can’t get enough of the real thing, puchi puchi is their answer to seaching high and low for bubble wraps.

What is also quite fascinating about it is that after some 100 odd or less presses, some random funny sound appears. I think this is probably the thrill for most people to continuously pressing on it until they get a funny sound.

What’s written on the package is that it is a toy for children 8 years and above. But guess what? Adults love it too and some are even hooked! Unbelievable! I bought one too, just for the sake of not missing out on the fun if it’s really all that fun. But after a while, I even forgot that I’ve got one. I think it’ll just sit there and wait for my baby to grow up to play with it!
