Would you pay RM20 for a bar of chocolate?

by Penny on October 19, 2009

I was buying a gift recently for someone who’s got a taste for luxurious things. Being a person who isn’t very creative, I thought a box of chocolates would be nice. Who doesn’t like luxurious chocolates every once in a while, right? And I also thought I can hardly go wrong with a sweet treat.

godiva chocolates
Don’t they look luxurious and yummy?

So I ended up at Godiva and browsed their shelves for suitable chocolates. That’s when I saw that they sell a candy bar of normal looking chocolate for RM20. I wondered if people actually go for a RM20 candy bar of chocolate? For the more exquisite, fine and smooth tasting pieces of chocolates I believe people are willing to pay the price. Even for praline pieces. For a normal candy bar? Well I guess they must have a market for it if they were selling it.

I was tempted to purchase that RM20 chocolate bar just to see what the big deal was but then decided against it because I was worried about *ahem* the waistline. I don’t want to add to the rich foods I’ve been taking a lot of recently and then end up being caught browsing the pharmacies for weight loss supplement. Also, I have every intention to fit nicely in this hot fuchsia dress that I recently stocked up :) Can’t let any bulge risk my chances with this dress!

So in the end I walked out with just a gift box of chocolate that’s an assortment of the various mix of dark chocolates. It has 36 pieces of individually wrapped chocolate pieces and comes in a classy box of brown and gold. It costs too much, but you can’t expect any less of Godiva chocolates.

I have yet to try a piece of Godiva myself, but the chocs definitely seem to be very good. If they aren’t, people wouldn’t be paying so much for them, I reckon. Have you eaten some heavenly Godiva chocolates? Care to share a review? Maybe if it’s really that great, I might just try out that RM20 chocolate bar! :D

Hi there,

Tried the chocolate and their cakes before… to be honest, I don’t feel any special or super tasty-lah. Maybe my expectation is too high.

I have tried “delectable by su” cakes located in The Garden (2nd Floor, near Robinson. There is a cake calls “7 sins”, I would say their chocolate cake is much nicer than Godiva.
