Do you shop more offline or online?

As a mother, I think I tend to shop more online than offline these days. Well, of course taking away the time spent on grocery shopping which is done offline. But a lot of other stuff, I tend to shop online because it saves time and can be done anytime I’m on the Internet. What about you?

Lots of people, especially in our country, don’t really dare to shop online due to security reasons and also a trust issue. But many have surpassed those reasons and find it such a convenience to shop online now. Are you one of them?

Not only do I shop for physical products online, I also choose financial products based on their internet facilities. Same goes for insurance products, I like a company that can give me an instant life insurance quote when I want it.

If you are not a convert to an online shopper yet, maybe someday you will be. I simply love the convenience and the time I save. What about the other fans of online shopping? Any other benefits to share?

Review of The Big Bad Wolf Books warehouse sale

by Penny on November 26, 2009

big bad wolf books warehouse sale

It is the sale I’ve been waiting for since I last went in May and grabbed tonnes of books. Finally it came. The Big Bad Wolf Books warehouse sale starts today and ends on 2 December 2009. Without missing a beat, I went for the sales today. Here’s how I find the sale this time around.

This round of warehouse sales promised more books which I have to agree is true. However, the sale is held at Amcorp Mall where it is a lot smaller than the previous place in Petaling Jaya’s Section 13 where all the warehouse sales are normally held.

Coupled with a lot more interested shoppers this time around, it was actually quite impossible to shop. The place was simply too small to accommodate books and people all together!

There wasn’t enough space for people to queue up paying at the cashiers, so it resulted in a long snake of a queue, going around the ENTIRE place! No kidding! The queues were going on in between aisles where people are also browsing for books. It was really difficult getting from one place to another. Coupled with the fact that lots of people were lugging around big boxes and bags to hold their books, you can imagine what a nightmare it really was.

But the good thing this time around is that children’s books are placed in a different section residing in a small room beside the big hall. It is a lot easier to shop for children’s stuff now. However, I find that the previous round’s selection for kids’ books were better.

Books and prices wise, it’s definitely awesome. Great titles at great prices as promised, no doubt about that. In addition to the low prices, there’s also an extra 10% discount if you use an OCBC credit card to pay for your purchases. But the pain to wait in the long queue was very real as people had to queue for about an hour before they got to their turn!

Look at all my souvenirs from India!

by Penny on November 26, 2009

My mom just returned from her annual holiday in India. Yes you heard it right, ANNUAL holiday and in a destination she enjoys, the outskirts of INDIA! If you would like to find out what it’s like, you can always drop by her blog and look at her posts of her holidays in India, Tibet, Nepal, etc. They make pretty interesting reads with pictures to boot. For most of us, it tends to open our minds to the cultures there as she mixes around with the locals and do what they do.

Usually there really isn’t much that she can buy for me from her trips to India. But this time, I received a whole lot of “souvenirs” from India! It began when I asked her to help me buy some Himalaya Foaming Fash Wash because it is a facial wash that I find very good and it costs one third the price in India.

So I’m guessing that while she shopped, one thing led to another and in the end this is what I got:

himalaya products from india

A whole lot of products from the Himalaya Herbals brand! I got 2 huge tubes of the dental cream, 6 bottles of the foaming facial wash, 5 bottles of cold balm for Ryan, 2 tubes of diaper rash cream also for Ryan, 2 bottles of apricot facial scrub, another 2 bottles of exfoliating facial wash, 2 tubs of wrinkle cream (bless my mum who’s helping me take care of aging! :P ) and some liver supplements for my better half.

She’s now quite a convert and is using all the skincare products from the Himalaya Herbals brand. And since I have them all now, I can’t wait to try and write reviews about them too. You looking forward to more skincare reviews? I hope so :)

It’s just as well that mum is back…apart from all these great goodies she brought back for me, we’ve also really missed all the warm homecook food :) She’s also the first person to lend me her ears to listen to me talk about some guy who’s threatening to sue me for one of my innocent post in my financial blog, Penny Sense. I think the guy’s not local, so if he does take up legal action against me, should I get myself some local or Oklahoma City lawyers to fight the case? But really, I don’t think the fella has much of a case against me anyway.

So should I waste my time dwelling on this or should I just ignore them and get back to what I do and enjoy life? I think I’ll do just that :) Remember to come back and read all the reviews I’m going to write on all those Himalaya Herbals stuff!

Christmas is a time of giving and the act of giving does not necessarily mean we have to spend a lot of money. Sometimes, the best things in life are free. Wouldn’t you agree that a warm hug is simply priceless?

So we shall start this year’s series of Christmas gift ideas here on Shopping & Sales Queen for those who are shopping on a budget.

One of the best gifts that we can give to friends and loved ones is the gift of books. Cultivating a love and habit for reading is one that will bring someone a long way in life. Reading expands one’s horizons and for some people who read the right books at the right time, it can be life changing. I have gone through such an experience before, therefore I’m speaking from my very own experience.

SectionsEd-SMH

So if you agree that books are meaningful and great gifts this Christmas, you can shop for plenty of them in all kinds of genre at the Big Bad Wolf Books warehouse sale that starts tomorrow at Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya. For more information about this sale, check it out here.

I went for the one sometime in May this year and bought lots of very cheap books. Motivational and self help books, personal finance books, books on enterpreneurship and business insurance, some novels, etc which cost me between RM8 to RM10 per book. Kids’ activity books are also very cheap, from RM2 to RM15, I got very decent items for my son. To see all that I bought, you can read about my raving post here.

So you see, you can pick up great titles for just about anyone you want to buy Christmas gifts for, and since they are so cheap, you probably can afford to pick up 2 to 3 titles instead of just 1 book each for everyone. Isn’t this a great way to spend wisely for something that’s valuable and meaningful to someone important to you this Christmas?

Happy shopping and stay tuned for more Christmas gift ideas coming up! :)

Don’t like shopping for car parts

by Penny on November 25, 2009

wheel arch

I don’t think I’m alone when I say I don’t like shopping for car parts. We girls just don’t consider spending on car accessories as shopping, do we? It’s boring!

As boring as it is, I now have to do some research on some car parts. I met with an accident last week. My wheel arch is dented and somewhat damaged. Looks like I have to replace it and I have no idea how much it costs to get one and the labour charges to have it fixed too. It sure upsets me that I have to pay the bill myself as the fella who banged into me just drove off. What an idiot. Pardon the language, but it still works me up when I think of it. It’s my first hit and run case.

Anyway, from my very surface research into car parts, so far I am finding it as boring as can be. But I am quite amazed at how much some of these little auto accessories can cost just to modify and beautify a car in the smallest way! Those fancy rims and Mopar performance parts are all beyond me and something that I wouldn’t even spend a minute to look through. I guess these are areas for the guys to claim their shopping paradise. How differently we surely are wired!

If anyone else would like to take this boring auto accesorry shopping off me, I’ll be glad to hand you the whole project! :D
