Sensitive question

by Penny on January 21, 2010

Several weeks ago someone asked me a rather touchy topic, about hemorrhoids relief specifically. I have no experience in this area, so sorry, no reviews nor any recommendation. On top of that,  it’s rather sensitive to be talking about the matter here. Well maybe it’s just me, feeling uncomfortable with it. But if anyone who has any advise and experience to share, kindly do so. You may help the reader tremendously whilst I can’t. The most I can do is to help post it here and see if the reader can get answers from others.

Have you tried colon cleansing?

by Penny on January 21, 2010

colon cleanse 295x300 Have you tried colon cleansing?

I’ve heard that periodically doing colon cleansing helps the body to detoxify and for some people, they actually loose weight too. I guess many people have used this method as a way to slim down too whilst reaping the benefits of being healthier at the same time.

I’ve been recommended to try it but I just don’t dare to do so from the way I hear how a colon cleansing program works. I read several colon cleanser reviews and though they try to leave out the details of how it is done, I just can’t get myself to sign up for a program no matter how some people close to me say it is good and effective.

How about you? Have you tried it? Is it really as bad as I imagine it to be? Does it get easier as you go for more sessions?

John King egg tarts

by Penny on January 21, 2010

egg tarts

I know John King has been around for quite a while now, but I only tried them just some 2 months back. I was told that the normal egg tarts and the durian tarts are hot items. So I tried them both. But I didn’t find them to be that exceptional. I’ve had better and those are the ones I bought from some small coffee shops and even some dim sum restaurants.

But then again there must be people who find the egg tarts to be good, otherwise John King outlets won’t be mushrooming around town. Furthermore, the prices of the egg tarts aren’t exactly cheap, but still it’s surviving and growing in franchise. They must be doing something right.

I personally enjoy some mini egg tarts that used to be available in PJ’s New Town or State. There’s a coffee shop in the corner where a man slowly bakes the tarts and the queue is usually quite long due to the tarts being freshly baked. The pastry is really soft and buttery, which I find a lot more yummy compared to John King’s.

However, the man no longer sells egg tarts in that coffee shop. Not sure if he’s moved or he decided to close the business. If it’s the latter, it’s really quite a waste. It’s so good that I can eat tart after tart! I ate a lot of them during my pregnancy and luckily I didn’t balloon up then, otherwise I would need the best weight loss supplement to help me get rid of those layers! :P

What are some of your favourite places when it comes to egg tarts? Many people recommend the shop in Jalan Pudu too. I’ve been there once but have forgotten how to go there now…what a pity :(

Last week I had some matters to settle with Maxis and I called the customer service line. I wasn’t expecting much but when the person came on the line and greeted me, she sounded so friendly, casual and relaxed that it actually helped to put me in a relaxed mood too.

maxis logo 300x262 First time I ever praised someone for great service

When talking with her, she was very pleasant throughout the conversation and she actually made me feel like I was talking with a friend. How pleasant! At the end of the conversation, I actually praised her and told her how pleasant she was to deal with. She gracefully accepted the compliment and we hung up.

It’s really one of those rare times when I enjoyed good service and want to talk about it. Have you ever experienced such service from a Maxis customer service personnel? It’s my first, really. They must’ve done something right, maybe by doing good pre-employment screening to find the right staff for the right job.

I do hope that all their staff are like that and not just that one or two who happen to have good attitude and service. The only way for us to know is if we consistently get good service from them right? Let’s see how it goes going forward…

Crazy about pan mee

by Penny on January 21, 2010

Lately I haven’t been doing much food or restaurant reviews. The truth is that I haven’t been bringing my camera with me when we go out, so there are no pictures to show even though the places I tried are pretty good. And as you know, a picture paints a thousand words, so I thought without the pictures, I wasn’t going to do much justice to them.

I’ve missed writing about food so I will write about a few that I tried in the last couple of weeks. But they are all related to pan mee because it’s one of my top favourite food :)  I can eat it day after day!

pan mee

Last week I met a friend for lunch in town and she suggested that we go for chilli pan mee. The so-called original restaurant offering chilli pan mee is Restoran Kin Kin, off Jalan TAR in Kuala Lumpur. But that place is always packed not to mention pretty hot. So my friend suggested we go to the one a few doors away on the opposite site, which is called Restoran Super Kitchen.

Apparently this restaurant has a few outlets in KlangValley. I didn’t even know that. It was my first time trying their chilli pan mee then and I found that it’s just as good as the Kin Kin one. The additional plus point of Super Kitchen is that it is air conditioned! Well it’s not exactly very cooling since they operate with the doors opened, but it is much cooler and lots more comfortable on a hot afternoon :) They too offer all sorts of different types of pan mee. I think the next time I’m there I will try the other types.

I also like the kedondong juice that they serve there. Very refreshing and appetizing. After finishing the entire bowl of pan mee and that wonderful juice, I was actually feeling just nice and not totally full yet! :P I think it’s because I was really hungry then. But luckily I didn’t order anymore, because not long after that I felt really full and sleepy from that lunch!
