Every year I just never know where to find great Chinese New Year cakes, cookies, snacks and those arrow roots crisps. All I do is just buy from stalls at the shopping malls and hope that they turn out nice.
But some of our friends actually have theirs specially ordered and they’re all apparently home-made. I wonder how they come across these contacts to begin with. Come the time for new year shopping for these stuff, I would never remember to call on my friends and ask where to get these goodies. Or if I do remember, apparently it’s too late because people order them way in advance. Imagine that!
I’m not particularly fussy about these items, so maybe that’s why I just don’t know where to find the best of the best or the so-claimed best CNY goodies. But I imagine that if I were particular about finding the best of these snacks, I would need lots of diet pills after the festivities!
So where do you find all your goodies? If there are any sharings here, at least I know I can come back to this post next year and all my answers would still be here for me

I met with a friend yesterday and we talked about our kids and came to learn that both our boys suffer from mild eczema problems once in a while. They have sensitive skin that reacts almost instantly to heat and even touch sometimes.
Then we talked about what works well to curb the condition and I wasn’t surprised when she brought up the name Elomet. You see, my son was prescribed the same cream by the paediatrician and it has worked wonders for him. We’ve also recommended this cream to a few others and they too are happy with the results.
So I just wanted to share about this product here. I’ve written about it in more details on my mummy blog, so if you are keen to know more, read the post here.
I’m not sure if it works for adult acne so if you are thinking of using it for this purpose, you better check with a doctor or the pharmacist first. You can find this product at your local pharmacy, but it is a prescribed one so do ask the pharmacist.

I was just wondering where you can get gold bullion or just simple gold coins other than from banks. The ones at gold smith shops aren’t very nice either, I find them a bit too traditional looking if you know what I mean.
The reason I ask is because I’ve always thought that gold coins are great gifts for my son. Imagine if he collects one gold coin a year until the age of 20. That would be quite a cool collection, wouldn’t it? Not to mention a great investment too!
So have you bought some nice looking ones that you can share with me? It’s not another 6 months to go before my son’s birthday, but things that are hard to find need some advance planning!

I was recently going to replenish my Vichy Aqualia Thermal Fortifying & Soothing Hydrating Concentrate (read the review of the facial essence here) when I suddenly had the itch to try out some other brand called Hada-Labo. I’ve never used it before but what attracted me to it is that it’s a Japanese product. I don’t know why that’s important or attractive to me, but I just thought that things from Japan are good quality stuff.

So I bought a bottle of the essence which costs about half the price of the Vichy essence that I’ve been using. I thought if this works as well, then I’d be saving some money spending half as much as Vichy’s product.
However, that is not to be the case because I don’t like it. It’s real sticky! I used the same small dollop that I’ve been using with Vichy but it is way too thick and sticky in texture. So much so that I wonder if it’s even absorbing at all. So I resorted to using an even small dollop to make it less sticky.
Well this product is definitely not going to stick with me. I guess as soon as I’m done using this bottle, I’m going back to Vichy. I won’t bother trying out this brand’s other skincare products too.
Has anyone tried this brand? Any experiences to share?
Oh speaking of sharing, if you do know of good anti aging face face creams, perhaps you can also give me a tip or two. I figured I’d better start using some of these sooner rather than later. I’m already in my thirties, when better than now to start taking better care of ourselves, right?

It’s the eve of Chinese New Year, so here’s wishing all my Chinese readers and friends a Happy Chinese New Year and may the Year Of The Tiger bring you much abundance in every aspect of your life!
Lots of Chinese believe in feng shui and energy works. Are you one of them? If so, have you done any special shopping for customary things for the coming Year Of The Tiger?
I know of friends who would buy feng shui books and then read up on what the year holds for them and they act accordingly to what’s best going forward so that they have a great and smooth year ahead. There are quite a handful of such feng shui masters’ books out there, namely the most popular by Lilian and Jennifer too, and of course not missing the rising Joey Yap. Who are your favourite authors in this area?
I once bought a book for the new year but I am not the type who would go for the hard sell like buying whatever amulets and what-have-yous as recommended by the feng shui books. If I do, I find that there’s just too many stuff I need to get on a monthly basis since the “fortune telling” goes month by month in those kind of books.
