The first online garage sale

by Penny on September 3, 2009

I’ve always heard the term “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. Familiar to you? Well that’s just a tweaked version of the famous saying ”One man’s meat is another man’s poison” but they do say the same thing in different context.

Have you ever been to a garage sale or some may call it a junkyard or car boot sale where people sell off their used goods for very cheap prices? Well, I have when I was a student and I found the items being sold by the people to be so interesting and one of a kind. And the reason people flock to these sales is because you probably can’t find the same items being sold in stores. And that’s where the saying of one man’s junk is another man’s treasure really fits the bill.

Anyway, the reason I brought up this topic is because I’ve decided to hold an online garage sale myself. Over the weekend I did some spring cleaning because we found that we were running out of space. So I decided that many of my treasures should go because I no longer have the space for them although they are dear to me.

Having said that, I also hardly ever make use of these treasures anymore, and they are mainly stored at home for me to look at, not to use. It’s a real waste isn’t it? So I thought someone else might find them useful and really put them to good use. That’s why I’m holding this online garage sale.

Be rest assured that the things I’m putting up for sale are in good and clean condition. I’m selling them cheaply because I was going to dispose of them anyway, which I felt is not right because it’s a waste to throw them out. So if you like them and wish to pick them up, you need not worry about the condition they’re in.

About the delivery of the item, postage charges will be borne by buyers. I will suggest postage methods for each item and you get to choose the preferred way.

So here are my first few pre-loved items for the garage sale. More will be uploaded in the next few days, so look out for them too. Have fun rummaging through my “junks”! :) Leave a comment to buy any of the items below, or email me at pennysense88@gmail.com.

Item 1 – Peter Rabbit Trinket Holder

This classic Peter Rabbit Trinket Holder is made of glass. It is a very small trinket holder, measuring about 4cm in diameter. It fits very small items like a couple of rings or a bracelet and necklace. It was a gift and such a gem.

You can use this to store your favourite piece of jewelry like this.

As you can see from the pictures above, this Peter Rabbit Trinket Holder is in excellent condition, no chips and scratches whatsoever. The colours are so pastel and lovely too, huh?

Price: RM8.00
I will recommend to use Pos Laju for posting of this item because it will need to be bubble-wrapped properly since it’s glassware. Pos Ekspress’ envelopes may not be the best way to go. I estimate postage of this item to cost about RM7 but will have to confirm once I’ve included the bubble wrap.

Item 2 – Butterfly hairclip from Korea

butterfly korean hairclip

I bought this from my trip to South Korea some years back for over RM25. Hardly ever used it. I bought it because I love the colours and it’s so sweet. You can be rest assured this is authentic Korean stuff :) It’s quite a large size hairclip and can hold a ponytail together if you sweep up all your hair. I’m saying this provided you do not have extremely thick hair, ya? I have quite thick hair so I could only use this to pin up half my hair.

Regular postage for this item can be used and it should be really cheap, between RM1 to RM2 only. Only thing is that with regular post, delivery will take between 3 to 4 days. With Pos Laju, it is next day delivery and I estimate it to cost about RM5.

Item 3 – Bow shaped comb hairclip

I think this item is pretty familiar to most. This hairclip was bought for some RM20 or so and I found that with my heavy and rather thick hair, I couldn’t keep my hair pinned up nicely. So again, hardly used although it’s so sweet and pretty.

This item can be easily posted via Pos Ekspress. It should cost about RM2 for a smaller Pos Ekspress envelope, and it’s next day delivery.

Item 4 – Sweet pearl choker

pearl choker necklace

I bought this 3 years back with the aim of wearing it as a nice choker on my wedding day as I walk down the aisle. But I never used it, because I was given some special handmade jewelry with love, so I put this one aside. It still makes a nice dinner function piece, in my opinion. I’ve never worn this so it’s totally unused. Bought it for about RM30 back then.

This choker is very uniquely designed, isn’t it?

Price: RM10.00
I also recommend using the RM2 Pos Ekspress envelope for this lovely piece.

Item 5 – Gold plated necklace with Wedgewood pendant

This was a gift and I also hardly wore it because I don’t like wearing yellow gold. I do love the Wedgewood pendant that it comes with, as I love Wedgewood products.

Price: RM30.00
Again, Pos Ekspress is recommended and it could easily fit into the RM2 envelope.

That’s it for this first garage sale, I will post more next time. So keep coming back to see other stuff that might tickle your fancy. Guys, I realise all these are girlie stuff but what did you expect, right? They are after all my stuff. So if you’re thinking of waiting up to see if I’m gonna put up any XBox for sale, then no, I believe you won’t see that ;) Nevertheless, you could still pick up a treasure or two for your special lady friend!
