I spy with my eye some 7 latest shopping trends…

by Penny on August 3, 2009

Since I’m now operating a little blogshop, fashion trends are now an all important stuff for me to learn and keep up with. Well, not as in putting myself into the trendiest and latest fashion statements, but at least to be able to provide them on Penny’s Online Shop.

Are you a trend-setter or follower? It doesn’t matter…do you know what are the biggest trends these days? I spotted some but I can’t say I’m 100% spot on. So here are 7 trends that I spotted to share with everyone.

1. Get fun and colourful with plaids

Plaids are in again! People are wearing plaid shirts to dresses and even shoes! I have sold out some of my plaid tops in my store and I even bought myself a pair of high heels that is designed partially with plaids fabric and I love it! And if those are not enough to convince you that they’re in, then take a look at the Female magazine August issue where there is a page that gives you tips on how to wear plaid shirts to work!

2. Sexy and alluring with thick strappy shoes

Instead of the ever delicate and slim strappy shoes, big and thick straps seems to be in these days. The strappy wedges have been back for some time and now the trend is moving towards wearing heels with thick straps. I’m not into such designs as I find them too grunge looking for me even though the shoes can look fabulously feminine like the pair pictured above from Jimmy Choo. I just can’t carry off such a design. What about you?

3. Cool and relaxed in maxi dresses

Have you noticed lots of ladies now wearing some very colourful, casual and pretty long dresses in the malls? Well these are maxi dresses and they are definitely the in-thing right now. This is again something that I cannot carry off well because I just don’t look good in them. If you are looking for some of these pretty maxi dresses, do drop by my shop as there are some pretty maxi dresses coming up soon.

4. Feeling good and healthy with organic products

Many of us are now more conscious about the chemicals used in our personal care products like skincare and even body care products. More and more people are willing to pay a little bit more to go for products made with natural ingredients and better yet if they are organic ones. I recently switched to using an organic and chemical-free skincare range from Sukin organic Australian skincare too. Am loving it thus far and will write some reviews about the products I’m using.

5. Going bold and loud with bright colours

Pastels are nice and pretty but you will now notice a lot of bright and bold colours are being introduced to add cheer to the ladies’ wardrobes. Even Coach’s new collection introduces a burst of fun colours into its handbag designs. Check out the Coach Poppy collection and you’ll see what I mean.

6. Conserving and protecting the environment by going green

Retailers are trying to discourage using plastic bags to store their customers’ goodies. Ikea has recently started to charge for their plastic bags and is encouraging customers to buy their reusable bags instead which they can use to shop elsewhere too. I too have gone on the shopping green bandwagon by purchasing a few eco-friendly and reusable shopping bags.

7. Go stylish and slim with big belts

The 70s look is back with huge belts fitted around the waistline to accentuate that flattering figure. So elastic belts are trendy these days along with clinchers. I personally prefer them to the usual leather belts. You can put them on with almost anything and don’t need belt loops to stay in place. I have a few clinchers in my collection and wouldn’t mind more! If you like clinchers too, I do have some for sale on my shop also.

I bet there are more new trends out there that I have yet to spot or have turned a blind eye to. What have you noticed to be the trend of late?
