I’ve eaten at Lan Kwai Fong Cafe a few times at The Curve. It is situated in between Thai Express and Kenny Rogers at the main food street of The Curve in Mutiara Damansara. Lan Kwai Fong Cafe is in the category of cafes such as Kim Gary and Wongkok Char Chan Teng. It is a Hong Kong-style inspired cafe, serving food that you typically would find in a kopitiam equivalent in Hong Kong. Like its counterparts, Lan Kwai Fong Cafe is not halal as it is not pork-free.
I find the food at Lan Kwai Fong cafe alright. Some of the dishes are quite tasty but there are also a few that I remember to be not too great. But that can be expected of any eateries, not everything on the menu is superb. So I don’t have much issues with that. What I find not so great is the price. It is a lot more expensive compared to the Kim Gary and Wongkok Char Chan Teng outlets.
Here’s a meal we ordered for three person that cost RM52.69 (a service charge of 10% is inclusive).
1. Prawn sambal rice

This rice served with this dish is not just plain steamed rice. It is an oily rice like those normally served with chicken rice. I found it quite fragrant and tasty, and not too oily. The sambal prawns and its gravy is quite delicious and not too spicy. The vegetables are quite pathetic though. They tasted raw and bland. This dish costs RM13.30.
2) Black pepper fried rice

I was generally satisfied with this fried rice. The spices of the black pepper made it fragrant and as I hoped, it didn’t turn out to be too pepperish. It is served with some lettuce and carrots on the side. It doesn’t come with much ingredients other than the four pieces of small prawns though. The fried rice costs RM10.30.
3) Lan Kwai Fong curry mee

Surprisingly, this curry mee is rather good despite it looking like a mediocre dish. The curry tastes slightly different from our typical curry with coconut milk. It is a rather refreshing twist and it comes with medium-sized prawns and eggs on top of the other normal ingredients you will find in any curry noodle. This noodle also costs RM10.30.
4) Brocolli

This is a side dish we ordered to share. This stir-fried brocolli was cooked just nice. I like it crunchy rather than soft, so this went well with me. However, I do find the gravy a little too sweet. But then again, many may beg to differ from my dislike for sweet food. Nevertheless, I still ate quite a few pieces of this dish! It came in a rather small portion (I think it was definitely nothing more than 20 cuts of brocolli) and it costs RM8.30.
Drinks aren’t cheap at Lan Kwai Fong Cafe too. A mug of warm water (not even in a tall glass, mind you) costs RM1.20 and a glass of iced lemon tea costs RM4.50.
So do you think the food is worth the price?

The fried rice looks promising, but yeah, a bit plain huh?
Off the topic, that is a great pic of broccoli, even for a carnivore like me.
