For some time now I’ve been thinking and eyeing an upgrade of my camera from a semi-SLR to a DSLR. I window shopped and got to try out the Canon EOS 450D in action. It was my first handling of a DSLR. It felt good and I was even more convinced that a DSLR is the way to go forward. I wanted to try out the Nikon D60 but the store I was at didn’t have stock. I then wrote a post asking for suggestions and opinions, and I got some very helpful comments that made me rethink what I should take into consideration as criteria for my purchase (thanks, guys & gals!). Finally, I’ve set my target on the Nikon D60.
Today I again went to visit more camera shops and this time got to play around with a Nikon D60. Due to a budget constraint, I think I’m quite set on the D60 rather than the higher end ones like D80 and D90. With the Canon 450D, I took the photos using the live view on the LCD screen (because I’m so amateurish!) but with Nikon D60, there is no live view so I peered through the viewfinder. To my surprise, it’s not that bad after all and I do agree with the fellow bloggers who left me comments about using the viewfinder – it’s actually better to find the images through the viewfinder.
Different shops offer different packages for the camera. The pack comes with the full set of camera body and lens, a 4 GB memory card, battery and a camera bag (actually, 2 bags – a small and big one). Fotokem also offered a tripod. I don’t remember the other shop offering it or maybe in my excitement, I didn’t hear it! In any case, Fotokem seems to offer the better deal, at RM2,188 and at this price you can opt for a 6-month or 12-month interest free installment plan. The other shop I enquired from offered RM2,099 with a 5.5% interest charge, which works out to cost more than Fotokem’s price of RM2,188.
I’ve not bought it just yet. Still scouting around and hoping to find better deals if there are any. I also wonder whether the price will still come down anytime soon. If and when I find a better deal, I’ll share it here with the camera enthusiasts, so stay tuned!

I just got one too..Why don’t you scout around for a 2nd hand D80, which would be about the same price. No regrets. If you’re still opting for a new piece, check out Photo Shangri-La. I hear they are selling D60 sets for RM19XX.
Happy Shopping
Hi there, its me again. I just sold off my D60 and i had get myself D90 as an upgrade. Just go for D60….. for your info, the free tripod is normally useless cos its too low…you will need a better one pretty soon if u r playing at low light area.
d60, I took a look at the D80 and found it to be quite big. I’m not sure if I would lug it around. D60 is still bearable. Great, I will check out Foto Shangri-La. Thank you!!
Hi again Justin. OMG, how much did you sell your D60 for?! I’m too late anyway…hmm, so it looks like I’ll be getting more of a white elephant for a free gift then!
