Here are some I thought of.
1. A pot of greens.
It’s been proven that it helps to relax the eyes if you look at something green after having worked on the computer for a long period of time. A little pot of plant should do the trick. Now all I gotta do is to remember to water it and keep it alive! You see, I don’t have green fingers. Even cactuses can die in my care. Speaking of cactus, my colleagues advised me not to have cactuses at my workstation as they are considered to be bad feng shui items. Maybe because they’re all so pokey and you don’t want to be stabbed at work, do you? Makes quite a bit of sense there.
What I would really love is a pot of blue hydrangea like the one pictured above. But these flowers are not lasting and I’m sure they wouldn’t last me longer than a week. So pretty to look at but so fragile. Maybe I should consider a pot of fake hydrangea? Anyway, if you are wondering where you can find hydrangea which is not quite common amongst many florists, you can try Floristika. I saw them there when I was doing my research on flowers a few years back for my wedding.
2. Pictures of loved ones
Instead of putting a few picture frames with photos of loved ones, I would prefer to display just one that can show unlimited number of photos. The only way to do this is through a digital photo frame. Now you don’t need to pick and choose who deserves a spot on your picture frames! Not only does the digital photo frame hold plenty of photos, it can play MP3s and MPEGs too. I can also choose to turn it all off and use it as a calendar. Cool gadget, huh? A 7-inch digital photo frame of a generic brand sells from RM349. If you go for better brands, a 7-inch frame will cost around RM499. The best place to shop for one of these would probably be Low Yatt Plaza or The Digital Mall at Section 14, Petaling Jaya.
3. Motivational posters
There are plenty of motivational posters that come with very beautifully photographed pictures. These not only add colours to the workspace but can sometimes give you the motivation you need through times of pressure and stress at work.
4. A basket of ‘Comfort Food’
I’m a chocolate fan. During my student days, I can gobble up a 1kg bar of chocolate all by myself, and all in one seating too! Chocolate is comfort food to me. When I feel stress wearing me down, I reach out for them and feel better and calmed. I have no idea why! My favourites for now are the Beryl’s almond chocolates and Meiji’s dark chocolate.
Beryl’s almond chocolate
Meiji black/dark chocolateWouldn’t it be a good idea to put a basket of these comfort food at arm’s length at work? I know it’s not such a great idea to my waistline but….
5. Books
There are some useful books which I read for work purposes. Since my bookshelves at home are already so cluttered with books, it may be a good idea to store some of them which are relevant to my work at the office. One of the books that I have been recommended to read and which I find useful is Gene Zelazny’s “Say It With Charts”. If your work involves doing up easy-to-read charts for presentations, you may want to consider this book for good tips.
Let me fill up my space with all these and let’s see how much room I’ve left. Then I’ll decide if anything else should be lugged from home to work!
