I never used to apply masks until two years ago when I regularly went for facials months before my big wedding day. I was told that my skin was terribly dehydrated so I badly needed to do something about it, and quickly too. The make-up artist I engaged was worried that my dry skin would not absorb make-up well so she encouraged me to do more facials to improve the skin condition. Apart from the frequent facials, she suggested I do more masks on my own time. That’s when I started shopping for masks.
Now, I’ve got a collection of masks. Most of them are hydration masks. I don’t have the same dry skin condition anymore but I continue to use hydration masks anyway just to maintain moisturised skin. Here are some of the masks I use:
I have a few favourites amongst them, but I try to rotate them about so that I get to use different masks each time. Luckily I’m not the sensitive type so I don’t normally get break-outs from using too many different brands of products. Anyway, featured below are the various masks that I’m currently using.
1. Skin Food’s Cucumber Soothing Mask.
I absolutely love the wash-off Cucumber Soothing Mask from Skin Food. This little tub of mask is inexpensive yet works wonders. The scent of cucumber is very refreshing and the mask feels very cooling and light. I like how fresh I feel after a 10-minute application.
To complete the mask, try using a pair of cucumber eye mask to complement since all masks are not recommended to be applied around the eye area.
2. Biotherm’s Hydra Detox Mask, Clarins’ Thirst Quenching Hydra Care & Bioglo’s ClearPore Deep Cleansing Mask.
These masks are recommended to stay on for only 10 to 15 minutes and you need to rinse it off with warm water. Once, when I didn’t know better, I left a mask on for a longer period of time. I was then informed that I should adhere to the instruction and time stated because anything more than the recommended time, the hydration mask could actually reverse the effect! So instead of giving moisture to the skin, it starts to extract moisture if left on for too long.
These two hydration masks are richer in content compared to the cucumber mask. They leave my skin feeling very cleansed after each application. However, I don’t quite like the scent of Biotherm’s Hydra Detox mask. It’s not unpleasant, but I just like something milder.
I have yet to try the pore cleansing mask as it is the newest addition to my collection. It’s a mud mask and I’ve never used one before. I’ll review it some other time once I’ve tried it on.
3. SK-II’s Facial Whitening Mask, Neutrogena’s Deep Hydrating Mask, Biotherm’s White Detox C+ Mask and Skin Food’s Rice Mask.
SK-II’s mask is very rich! As you open the package to retrieve the mask, you will realise that the mask is soaking wet and dripping with the rich essence. I tend to like masks which are not too wet as it is easier to put on. I didn’t quite like how slimy the mask felt on my face as I was trying to smoothen out the mask.
I find Biotherm’s White Detox C+ mask to be quite a neutral product. I didn’t fall in love with it but neither do I have negative things to say about it. It’s a so-so mask for me, nothing spectacular to shout about. I don’t use a lot of it too, so maybe that’s why I don’t see any difference to my skin.
The Neutrogena Deep Hydrating Mask is one of my favourites. It’s not as soaking wet as the SK-II mask so I’m quite comfortable with it. It has a pleasant mild scent to it too. After application of this mask, my skin feels a little more supple and moisturised. This mask is quite inexpensive too. Definitely recommended.
I can’t say anything about the Skin Food Rice Mask just yet because I haven’t started using it. It was given to me as a sample to try out. Will write more about it once I sample it.
This is my ultimate favourite! However, it is currently not in my collection. It’s a thirst quenching mask and it did wonders for me. I find that it’s the best out of everything else I’ve tried so far. In fact, once I’m done with all my hydrating masks, I intend to go back to this Drink Up mask. I highly recommend this mask if you are looking for a hydrating mask.
Enough of masks for now. It’s time to end this post and get on to some pampering time with one of these masks before bedtime…I hope you’ve found something useful form this post. The next time you shop for a mask, bear in mind some of these recommended masks.
