If you like Dragon-i restaurant which offers cuisines from various parts of China, you might just enjoy Canton-i. Canton-i – Truly Hong Kong, as it is called, is a sister restaurant of Dragon-i and offers an array of Hong Kong cuisines and the chefs are brought in all the way from Hong Kong and Guangzhou. According to their website, there are currently three Canton-i outlets in Klang Valley, located in 1Utama, The Gardens and Sunway Pyramid. There’s also one up north in Queensbay Mall, Penang.
Whilst the set up at Dragon-i is an all red concept, Canton-i is pink! I find its decor nicer than that of Dragon-i. It’s more refreshing and not as dim as the settings at Dragon-i. So atmosphere wise, I like it better at Canton-i but food wise, I think I still prefer the selection at Dragon-i. Nevertheless, Canton-i did give me some good impression on my first visit and here’s what I think is worth having.
Apologies that this post does not come with pictures of what I’m going to talk about because I didn’t bring along my camera. But here’s one picture I borrowed from their own website, looks delicious and tantalizing, doesn’t it?

I had the barbeque pork rice set that came with a generous helping of meat, oily rice, some vegetable and half a hard boiled egg. The barbeque pork was delicious. It tastes sweet but not too much which fits my tastebuds, and is not too lean nor fat. It has a good combination of both lean and fat meat in it and I thought it was quite worth the price of RM11+ per plate.
The tau fu fah was also quite nice. It is served with gingered sugar and I enjoyed it warm. The texture was smooth and soft, unlike many places that serve them in rather rough and powdery texture. This bowl of dessert costs RM3. Worth the money for a good bowl of tau fu fah, if you ask me.
So if you’re looking for some simple Hong Kong cuisine and willing to pay a little premium for it, Canton-i is quite a nice place to visit. At least now I know where to get some recent barbeque pork rice in the comforts of an air conditioned restaurant.
