Read this post to find out how the hair rebonding process is done, the kind or products and chemicals used as well as some tips to care for rebonded hair.
The Process & Products Used
The rebonding process took me a whole 4 hours. Yes, I was dead bored because I didn’t expect it to take that long! I’ve had friends who said they did it in 2 hours and some took 3 hours max, including doing colour. My guess is that my hair is just too stubborn and didn’t relax as easily as others did.
The salon that I went to used a complete range of products from Shiseido. I’ve heard that it’s more lasting than Loreal. The process started with a gentle hairwash followed by conditioning of the hair.
Next, to straighten the waves, my hair was applied with Shiseido Crystallizing Straight H1 cream which is a smoothing and retexturizing cream. When my hair was thoroughly covered with it, a steamer was put over my head for a good half hour.

Shiseido’s Crystalliazing Straight H1 and H2 that act as hair relaxant
When that was done, the lady did the strand test on my hair to see if it has relaxed sufficiently. Well the first round didn’t quite do the job because she went on to apply some more chemical and set the timer to another 10 minutes.
After washing it off, came the hot, steaming hair straightener. This itself was a painfully long process because she patiently and slowly straightened the hair bit by bit. It looked as if she was only grabbing 20 strands of my hair at a time when I seem to have millions of them. Of course, I must have exagerated there…but that’s how long I’ve waited for my entire head of hair to finally get straightened out.
I was happily stretching my limbs when the nice lady kept her straightener away. Little did I know that I wasn’t nearly done! She now started applying the second type of the Crystallizing Straight H2 cream and set the timer to go off in 10 minutes. After that I had a thorough rinse-off and finally, my hair was blown dry.
Now I’m really done. She applied the finishing touches with Shiseido’s Crystallizing Aquafix. I was recommended 2 things – to use the shampoo-cum-hair mask and the Crystallizing Aquafix gel. A small bottle of the shampoo costs RM62 while the tub of gel costs RM40. Apparently if you use that shampoo/mask, you do not need to do hair treatment. And the gel is a hair moisturiser that also helps to maintain the hair ends.

Shiseido Crystallizing Aquafix – definitely recommended!
If you have hair as stubborn as mine, you will probably end up sitting for 4 hours getting your done rebonded. Can you take that? I’m not sure if I will go for it again!
The Result
Spending those hours at the salon did payoff big time somewhat because I do like the much softer and healthier looking hair after the rebonding. It makes me look a little neater than before with my thick and messy hair. Using the Shiseido Crystalliazing Aquafix has also made the hair manageable in terms of not having entangled hair. One of my displeasure from doing this rebonding is the chemical smell that is left on my hair for days! A quick check with several friends who have done rebonding confirmed that this is normally the case.
Tips on Caring for Rebonded Hair
Your professional hairdresser would tell you that once you have done rebonding, you are not to wash your hair for at least 3 days. During these 3 days, you should also not tie your hair or use a hairclip in any way. You need to leave it alone to settle. Whilst 3 days is the minimum period to not tie your hair, some hairdressers would recommend that you do not do so for 2 weeks after the rebonding.
In the first 3 days, whenever you take a shower, use a shower cap (remember, do not tie up your hair and push the locks into the shower cap!) to prevent your hair from getting wet. After the third day, when you gladly and gloriously wash your hair, avoid using any dandruff shampoos. It is recommended that one does not use dandruff shampoos on rebonded hair because this type of shampoo will cause hair to become dry. If you absolutely need to use a dandruff shampoo, try to alternate the use with a regular shampoo.
To maintain your beautifully rebonded hair, avoid curling up your hair too much. This will eventually cause it to return to its original state sooner than it’s supposed to last. If you take care of your rebonded hair, it can last you for more than a year.

how much did u do urs? im thinking of doing mine too..and the salon that i went to ask, they said they using Shiseido product and cost only sg 110. the other salon is sg180 but not sure what product. should i go for the price or product? im scare of the news some became bald!!! T_T
Grace, I did it in Muar, a state in Johor. It cost me RM120 only! Actually, if you take a couple hours drive into Muar for some good food and get your hair done, you could save yourself a lot! You should go for the product rather than cheaper price. If you go for a cheaper option and your rebonding doesn’t last long, it’s a waste. I highly recommend using Shiseido’s product for this.
thanks for replying. i do think of going to KL end of the month to do hair rebonding. but then have to do saloon research again. im not that long in KL. but since u say shiseido is really recommended, might aswell i just go for the $110?? but then the thing is, it’s just salon around the neighbourhood. its not like those fancy2 ones. aiyo. you think is it okay to try?
It helps to find a reputable salon but that will also mean paying a premium for it. But I’ve had friends who did it at small salons in town and it only cost RM100++ for shoulder length hair.
hi i am a hairdresser and been using shiseido crystallizing but now that i moved in dubai its not available here yet. i hope you cud help me to find suppliers/distributors contacts or email pls lemme know arabic hair need it!:)
Hi Jaja. I’ve just sent you some information on a distributor who could ship all the way to Dubai.
hey thanks penny really helpful! cheers!
may i know the full address?
Hi Munzee, are you referring to the address of the salon? I’m not quite clear what you would like to know…
yaya i wanna know where is the saloon? is it cost rm 120 only??how’s the result?
The salon is in the area of Bentayan in Muar. I’m not familiar with Muar so I’ll try to get more specific information for you. Yes it only cost me RM120 for my long locks. It’s been 6 months since I did it and my hair is still very well maintained, unlike some of my friends whose rebonding didn’t last them as long.
ok i am looking forward for ur reply..heheh thank u vr much
hi penny. Can you send me some information regarding the distributor who can ship the product all the way to Florida. Looking forward for your help. Thanks in advance!!
Hi Munzee, the name of the salon is called Veron. It’s actually some shoplots along Bentayan (look out for where EON Bank is), right opposite the Bentayan foodcourt. The salon is on the first floor. I hope you find it and get your hair done!
Lesley, I’ve just sent you the information in an email. Check it out!
hi its me again. grace. have u heard of nanosilk therapy rebonding? whats the difference? here in tanjong pagar they having promotion $88 for all hair length. is it worth trying?
Hi Grace. I’ve not heard of this nanosilk rebonding, so no idea what the difference could be. But it does seem a lot cheaper! Maybe you should find out how long it can last you and see if it’s worth going for it, as well as the products used.
am desperately trying to find an online site where i can order the shisheido h1 and h2 bonding products. Can anyone help? A distributor’s contact? I live in nairobi. Kenya and wld need it freighted there. Thanks
Nicole, I’ve just sent you the information you need in your email. I hope you are able to get what you want.

Ms.A
I’m 14 going 15 this year and I’m thinking about doing rebonding. But because of school and such I have to tie my hair maybe a week after I do rebonding. Is it very hard to take care? I saw many of my school friend’s did it. If I dont wanna do rebonding after the 1st time and let my hair grow, will it turn out to be the normal hair I know, or must I rebond every single time?
Snowz, you need to leave your hair alone at least for the first 3 days after the rebonding for best effect. It’s not hard to take care of rebonded hair, really. If you take good care of it, it can last a long while. A word of caution though, once you cut your hair, it’s likely it’ll return to its original state before rebonding.
i want to know after 3 day after rebonding,we need to use wax to style my hair again?because my hairstylish already put it on my hair.i also want to know is true we need to shampoo our hair everyday after we used wax?is not damage my hair?thanks for the info.
i did it with my fav salon in KL with the cost of rm150 plus free shampoo. normally it’s rm200. it was almost 2 and quarter months now. can i tie my hair? i’m sick to withstand hot wheather but still afraid it will affect my rebonded hair. thanks
I live in Indonesia and would like to know if anyone knows where I could get my hair rebonded or where I could have the products shipped to me? I would be really glad if anyone could help me
as my hair totally out of control!!!! Thanks
hi,at last i now have the products that ive been waiting for and then of course i was the first customer here who tried shiseido rebonding..its really worth it…even my hair dresser who has been using so many products he was amazed with the results…thanks a lot..hope you guys tried also soon….
Khai, I’m not sure about the use of wax and the effect it has on rebonded hair. Perhaps some hair expert could help you out better than me. But I would imagine that it’s best to wash your hair after using wax. My personal experience of using wax on the hair is that it is sticky and produces some white particles when left overnight without washing.
Mira, sounds like a good deal you found at the salon!
It’s okay to tie your hair. But when tied for a long period, you may find your hair a little wavy. But then again, I find that once you wash your hair, it will turn out straight again!
Sandra, I’ll send you some information of how you can get the products shipped to you.
Ana, I’m glad you finally got the products! Great to hear that it turned out well for you.

I saw it in some of the hair care shops and may want to get it… and u seemed to like it a lot.. do u think it is worthy and effective for keeping the hair nourished and straightened? fyi, i did not rebond my hair, so do you think it would be as effective? Riana, I’m not so sure myself. So far I started with using Shiseido and have since only used it even at my subsequent rebonding session. But I have personally spoken with other ladies who used other brands and did not achieve the desired results.

Hi ya! I just had my hair strightened using the shiseido products in a salon in HKG. Unfortunately there was a bit of an english barrier, so I am unsure of the aftercare process….any tips..Like when should I was my hair, can I use my GHD’ s if I need to. I’m really happy with the result, although I did initially notice some frizzy bit on the ends which the hair dresser cut out when I returned the next day, and now I have noticed a bit mor at the front of my head at the roots which was not there before. I did go to the gym the next day and my hair proably got a lil sweaty, could this have affected it?? Is there anyway of fixing this myself? What does the aquafix gel do?? Please help, I live in
New Zealand and am not sure if I am able to get these products here. Thanks, look forward to your response.
Amin, I sent you the info via email but my email to you can’t seem to get through. Perhaps there’s something wrong with the email address?
Romes, as far as I’ve heard, it’s always been advised that the first 3 days after rebonding you’re not supposed to wet the hair. Your sweat could have made it wet and maybe affected it a little bit. Not sure how it can be fixed though…the gel we talked about is to nourish the ends of the hair and is said to be effective on straightened hair. It works very well for me up to this day and I find other hair serum not as good compared to this. I can send you the site to have a look at the product, and they deliver worldwide so maybe it won’t be a problem at all for you to get it in NZ
I want to buy onlie but how must i do
I seems to like the product but I don’t know where to purchase, how to order online? thanks

Syafiq, I’ll send you some details via email on where you can purchase.
Elizabeth, I’ll send you the same…
Dakuta, sorry to hear of your not so great experience. If you really want to DIY, I’m not sure what it takes. But you can surely give it a try. I’ll give you the site too and you can purchase the products and try it out. Good luck!
Kim, the site I recommend to most people here delivers worldwide, so I think that should be able to help you. I’ll send via email.
hello… Penny thanx alot for the reply i hope that DIY can help me can u give me the the site and really i want to try…
thanx alot!!
hi penny and everyone.i was just browsing on the web and found your conversations.coincidentally,i just had my hair rebonding this afternoon…it took the hairdresser a little over 3 hours.my hair is very fine and only chin length (bob cut) thats why it took less time.i didnt know about this shiseido products (sounds good based on your feedbacks and shiseido is a trusted name.my powder is shiseido).
anyway, what was used on me was Sofia by Revlon.i suppose its a little bit cheaper than shiseido…but the results were comparable to what you are describing.
funny question but how did you guys sleep during the first 3 nights? do we need to sleep on our face? and not lying on our back with the hair down the pillow?
this aquafix..are the available on department stores.
do you still blowdry or use flat iron on your rebonded hair?
look forward to your reply…thanks!
Hi Dakuta, alright I will send the info soon. I was cut off from having internet connection for a while so I hope to send the info to everyone as promised soon.
Petite, I’m sure you must be enjoying your new hairstyle!
About your question, I slept like normal but I just made sure that I layed my hair down flat. And I hardly turn or move about much in my sleep so I guess I didn’t mess it up much. Those 3 days were one of the hardest to get through in terms of no washing of hair and taking care not to ruin the rebonding!
Aquafix, as far as I know, are sold at Shins outlets. I’ve not seen them anywhere else. I think some hair salons will probably have them too, along with hair care product shops. I don’t blowdry my hair and don’t use one of those irons either. I’m pretty lazy when it comes to hair care!
Hello. I rebonded my hair yesterday, and it turned out well but then i think it doesn`t suit my face cause i`m thin and has oval shape face.
By the way, I have Basketball and Fútbol training next week everyday.. how can i tie my hair? and i have to bun it next thursday for my CAT. Will it greatly affect my hair?
I had my hair done at $50 only with cellophane and a keratin treatment. I have long hair. :>
Hi!
Can I have the information for the distributor and also products after care.
Thanks
hi,i have bought this product for rebonding my hair today. i want to use it by own.is it possible? and really want to know that how long should i keep H1 product in my hair?or maximum how long i can keep the cream in my hair without damage?
is it neccessary to put steamer over hair during application of H1 product? or should i use hot iron over the cream?thanks
I just rebonded my hair last 2 weeks with Shiseido products at Tg. Malim, Perak.
I must say, this is the best rebonding ever – smooth, less damaging (I got no brittled ends!) and the scent is pleasant (unlike typical rebonding which leaves you with that one kind smell)
RM270 including one treatment ampoule, my hair is passed the bra strap length already =)
Nice, Shiseido rebonding is highly recommended!!!!
Mara, I’m guessing the sweat might not do good to newly rebonded hair in the first 3 days. But how did it go anyway? But the thing with rebonded hair is that once you wash it, it falls back nice and straight so I usually don’t have a problem tying it up the whole day.
Monica, ok I will send you the info via email.
Lamisa, I have no idea as I’m not an expert…I think it’s best to get professional advise on this. Hope it turns out gorgeous on you
Do share with us how it goes ok?
Nadia, I’m sure you love your hair now! Worth the money and time spent rebonding huh
And to everyone else whom I still owe an email regarding where to buy the product, I’m so sorry…been very caught up. I promise to send the info to each of you very soon…
hi !!!
i’m just like others wanting to know where can i order for a shiseido..i have used i and i’m so satisfied..now i want to have my hair dyed,is it ok??won’t i damage my hair??how long should i wait til i can dye it?
