Last month, while shopping at The Curve, I was approached many times by credit card promoters of Standard Chartered’s Business Visa Credit Card. I declined many times but after a while, I decided to hear them out in terms of what the Standard Chartered Business Visa Credit Card offered.
They were doing a mall wide campaign at the mall then and many shops at The Curve offered good discounts with any Standard Chartered’s credit cards. They were promoting the business card and said that it didn’t just apply to businesses, and they were happy to give it out to individuals in the workforce as well.

The guy was trying to sell me all the benefits of the card. Seeing that they were coming to the end of the promotion with The Curve, he reassured me that there will be more campaigns with other malls coming up and I would be able to use the card for its full benefits. Specifically, he also told me that I could use the card for 50% off dining at Marche and a Japanese restaurant (I’ve forgotten the name). He said these 50% discounts at these 2 outlets that he mentioned were perpetually on-going.
After a while, I decided to sign up for it. In just 10 days, I received an SMS from Standard Chartered to inform me that the card has been approved. I was quite impressed with their efficiency. A week later, I received the card. On the same day I received it, I thought of using it at Marche for the 50% discount. So off we went to dinner, only to find that there’s no such deal! I asked the cashier if there ever was such a deal and she said it was just a 1-day promotion and it was only one time. I felt so cheated by the promoter!
Now, I’m just going to find some time to complain to the bank about how their people lie to potential customers about their products’ benefits, and I am definitely cutting up the card and sending it back their way. I don’t fancy knowing that the promoter will receive his commission with my sign up. So by cancelling it, he’ll only be getting what he deserves.

WOW! That’s so below the belt.
Report to them and also inform the newspaper.
I wonder if they will get into deeper trouble if Bank Negara catches wind of this…
if i were you, i would have reported them to BNM and to their customer service. i am sure they can trace the sales person who sold you the card, that will teach them not to mess around with us consumers.
Believe me, when I’m in a nasty mood, I will do it!
