Good food at Seri Penang, Ikano

by Penny on September 14, 2008

Seri Penang restaurant is a newbie to Ikano Power Center. I think it’s opened for less than a month but the crowd has been consistently flowing in. When I walked in there tonight for dinner, something about it seemed familiar. Then the waitress who came to serve us greeted us as if she knew us. Only then I realised that we’ve been served by her before, at a restaurant called Penang Cravings at Atria Shopping Centre. Seri Penang is the second outlet of Penang Cravings but with a different name.

At Penang Cravings, I normally go for only noodles but today we decided to order a couple of dishes for a change. And I’m glad we did because we had a very decent dinner and we were pleased.

We ordered two dishes of vegetables, stir fried kai lan (RM14.90) and lotus root (also at RM14.90). The kai lan was nicely done with crunchines in the stems so it tasted very fresh and not overcooked. The lotus root on the other hand was a little bland in taste but I still enjoyed it very much. In this dish, there are lots of other ingredients that include wolfberries, black fungus, baby corns, sliced carrots, cashews and green soybeans. Seeing that the two vegetables that we ordered cost the same, I think the lotus root dish is more value for money seeing all the ingredients that go into it. Here are some pictures of the yummy vegetables to share.

As for meat, we ordered kung po chicken (RM16.90). This dish is actually very delicious and I believe it’s all becaue of the sauce. Actually, it doesn’t taste anything like kung po chicken, it tastes a little like sweet and sour chicken with a touch of chilli. Fortunately it tastes good, though! The chicken must’ve been fried before being cooked in the sauce because the skin of the chicken was cruncy and quite fragrant. Here’s the kung po chicken dish.

We also ordered a foil grilled squid dish (RM17.90). This is pretty much the Portugese grill style, with squids served with eggplants and onions in some sambal sauce. The sauce is quite unique and I enjoyed this dish very much too. It wasn’t too spicy too.

Overall, I would rate this place well. We had a great dinner with no complaints. We finished every single bit of food on the plates!
