Finding the best deal on Nikon D60 DSLR camera

Hi there! If you're new here, and enjoy what you're reading, you can subscribe to my feed. Thanks for visiting!

After months and months of drooling over a DSLR camera, I finally bought a Nikon D60. It came highly recommended as an entry level DSLR camera for a beginner like me. Even after making my decision that I will go for a Nikon instead of Canon DSLR, I didn’t jump in to buying it right away. I wasn’t sure if this is a good time to invest in a camera that we don’t necessarily need since we have a semi-SLR which is rather good. But in the end, I just had to go for it.

I’m glad I waited till now to get it because I had some time to think about where I wanted to buy it from. Prices vary amongst shops, but I would say the differences weren’t that much. If you were to purchase it using cash instead of credit card, you obviously get a better price.

What I did was to hunt for zero interest installment plan on my purchase using a credit card. Many shops that I checked with told me that certain credit cards offered that option, but if I were to opt for that mode of payment, they shop would charge me a certain percentage higher than the price first quoted to me. I didn’t go for such deals.

In the end, I bought my Nikon D60 from Jusco at 1 Utama. Shocking? Well, hear me out for the few benefits of buying from Jusco instead of a camera shop the likes of Fotokem or Foto Shangri-La.

  • Firstly, I found out that the supplier of Nikon cameras to Jusco is part of Fotokem. I get no less of a warranty period buying from Jusco or any other camera shops.
  • The price was alright with me. I paid RM2,145 for the camera. It comes with the camera body and kit (3 times zoom), charger and battery. Amongst the freebies I got are a 4GB SD card, a tripod (not the mini one thank goodness because we already have one of those), a DSLR bag, and an additional Nikon laptop bag.
  • I got my interest free installment for this purchase. At Jusco, they offer interest free installments on purchases made with either Citibank or Maybank credit cards.
  • I also got to accummulate thousands of Jusco points on my Jusco membership card with just this purchase. These points will get me some Jusco shopping vouchers and that’s pretty much money in my pocket. You don’t get the same benefit buying from camera shops.

So, did I get a good deal or what?

I can’t toy around with the camera right now because I’m charging the battery (that’s why I’m blogging now). Tomorrow, when I wake up, I’m going to be like an extremely excited little girl, rushing to play with her brand new toy! For tonight, all other bedtime books will take a backseat, making way for that Nikon D60 manual! :D
