Everybody wants you to shop!

by Penny on May 2, 2008

Just this week I’ve been receiving many SMSes lately – from my credit card providers. Everybody wants a piece of everybody else’s money. Let’s see what these banks are offering to tempt you to spend more money!

1. HSBC
HSBC is having its HSBC Rewards Fair at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre from 1 – 4 May. You can redeem your gifts instantly. On top of that, you are also offered up to 50% off your Reward points for selected redemption items.

This is a redemption so it’s not directly getting you to spend money, but I’m not sure if the merchants will offer to sell some products too and encourage you to swipe your card for them instead of paying by cash. What do you reckon?

2. OCBC
Yesterday while I was at 1 Utama, I received an invitation from OCBC to shop at Marks & Spencer. As a cardmember, I have the privilege of getting a 25% discount off my purchases at Marks & Spencer. Not bad if I have something I really need from there. Thanks, but no thanks!

3. Hong Leong Bank
The latest of such SMS came from Hong Leong Bank. This time, if I’m the first 500 to spend RM500 in grocery shopping from 1 May to 30 June, I’m entitled up to 10% rebate. I’m always quite hesitant about such offers on rebates. I’m not sure if this is a definite qualification as long as you are the first 500 cardmembers to ring up RM500, or this is some kind of contest that puts you in the running to win that 10% rebate. I didn’t bother checking out the website for more information because never before in my grocery shopping history have I purchased up to RM500 worth of stuff. So, no need to waste my time and not to mention money!

What have you been offered so far? I bet you’ve seen your share of such SMSes too. Spend wisely and happily!
