oral b electric toothbrush 206x300 Review on the use of an electric toothbrush

I was never a believer in using an electric toothbrush. To me, using the electric toothbrush is time consuming as you need to spend more time than a conventional toothbrush to have your teeth cleansed. The act of brushing teeth should be easy and quick for me.

But ever since I was given an electric toothbrush as a gift, I decided to use it so that it won’t be wasted as a piece of white elephant. On days where I feel like I have the time, I would use it. Recently I’ve been a bit more hardworking in using it more regularly because I find that it does make my teeth feel cleaner after each use. Here’s my review of using an electric toothbrush and the benefits of it.

How to use an electric toothbrush properly

Typically, it is recommended that an electric toothbrush user spends about 2 minutes for thorough cleansing. Being a new user of an electric toothbrush, I made a mistake of using the toothbrush wrongly the first time round. I didn’t expect the pressure of the vibration to be so strong, so I used a little bit of strength to press the toothbrush against my teeth and gums while it was in action.

And because of that, I hurt my gums. I was told that I’m not supposed to apply any pressure to it. Instead, I should just lightly hold it against my teeth and gums and the electric toothbrush will do its job perfectly. So after my gums were okay, I used it again and this time I made sure I only held it lightly against my teeth and gums and I found that it works wonders for me.

Benefits of using an electric toothbrush

Immediately after brushing, I feel like a layer of plaque of whatever it is on the teeth is removed. I felt more apparent difference when I switched back to the conventional toothbrush and after brushing, I felt like that was indeed a rough layer on my teeth and it doesn’t feel clean, even with the use of a mouthwash after that.

I’ve also heard from someone that long term use of the electric toothbrush has helped him in removing some stains on his teeth. I haven’t been using it long enough to see that kind of results. But then again, I guess it won’t be easy to remove stains that have been on the teeth for a long time altogether. I imagine these kind of stains to be only removable by a dentist through scaling.

Nevertheless, I shall monitor and see if I do have improved results on removing some stains. It would be great if it works because I hate going to the dentist even for a supposedly painless scaling session.
