Dog GPS Tracking

About a month ago I was testing out a GPS device and was impressed by it. Today, I learned about a mini GPS that can be attached to a dog’s collar so that you can track your dog’s whereabouts!

The dog GPS tracking device will come in useful if you let your dog roam the streets freely. Worst case scenario, if you lose your dog, you need not worry about not being able to find your beloved canine friend.

Not only are you able to track your dog’s whereabouts, you can also set up safety zones. Once your dog crosses the boundaries of the safety zone, you will be notified via SMS. How cool is that? However, this is a US technology and software that’s linked to the telco (notification or alerts sent by SMS). Even if we purchase and are able to use the software, I’m not sure if this links to the telcos here to prompt notifications.

I also wonder about whether there are any side effects to the dog as it wears the device on its collar on a long term basis. Also, if the device is easily removable, then anyone who is able to come in contact with the dog might be able to take it off.

Anyway, let’s wait and see if this device will be brought in for sale in the near future. It’s not cheap though, going for about USD200.
