Are you the type who save up coins in jars or piggy banks? Here’s a cool digital piggy bank that you can count on to let you know exactly how much you’ve saved up at any given point. Check this out.
I used to have a little piggy bank when I was little, but I admit to not really having saved much money in it. It wasn’t one of those that you need to break open to get your savings out, it had a little plastic cap at the bottom that’s removable. So I can’t say that I didn’t save because I didn’t want to break the piggy bank one day. Bottom line is, I just didn’t save.
Then when I got pregnant, I started to put away coins in a box as additional savings for my baby. I know that kind of savings wasn’t going to be much to count on, but I wanted to see how much can be put aside from an informal saving method just by putting away coins.
When the box was full, I wanted to cash it in but was a bit embarrassed to bring it to a counter in a bank to have it all counted. A friend told me about this little sundry shop whose owner is always welcoming coins and would do an eager exchange. So I brought my box of coins to him and left it with him in good faith. He told me I can return in half an hour and he would be ready with the money. Whilst this arrangement seemed convenient, it comes with having to trust the shopowner to be an honest fellow.
Now, I’ve discovered a much easier way to saving up coins and knowing exactly how much it all amounts to. Thanks to technology, there’s such a thing called a digital counting piggy bank that lets you know the exact change you have dropped in it. Isn’t that cool? I can bring my change over to the sundry shopowner and know whether he’s counting accurately! Of course I don’t mean for this to be a checking mechanism on his honesty, but hey at least I know if I ever get cheated, right?
This digital piggy bank costs from US$14 to US$30, depending on the design and size. It runs on batteries and has an easy twist-off cap for you to deposit or withdraw easily. I would love one of these. Maybe I should put this up as a Christmas wishlist already!
