A friendly community service message to online shoppers

credit card with padlock1 150x150 A friendly community service message to online shoppersHere’s a quick note to alert online shoppers that they should always exercise caution when shopping online, especially when paying through a credit card on a shopping website. Whilst it is true that in today’s world the payment gateway security for many online shopping sites have improved tremendously to protect shoppers, but there are still some lurkers out there who still manage to hack through sites and gain access to personal and private information about people. I think there’s no site out there that dares to claim a 100% identity theft protection because technology evolves so quickly that you just won’t know if a hacker has managed to get through your system.

So if you are shopping online, try as much as possible to use safer payment methods that does not require you to divulge information. You can opt to do a payment by depositing money to the vendor or if you need to use a credit card, see if there are options to pay through PayPal. Personally, I feel that it is a safer option than typing in credit card details on the shopping sites.

A good tip that I’ve often been reminded of when needing to key in information such as credit card number or passwords on websites is to type those information in a word document. Then, copy that information and paste it into the website that you need to input it. That way, it supposedly minimises the risk of your information being stolen. This method makes sense to me. You may want to try doing it this way just to be safe than sorry.

Hope this little community service message helps you to shop smart and safe online.
