Cockroaches and the cashier at Carrefour Mid Valley

by Penny on January 4, 2009

Yesterday I was queueing at the long lines of the cashier counters at Mid Valley Megamall’s Carrefour outlet when I was shocked by 3 incidences. I don’t know if anyone has experienced this but found it not much of a big deal, but to me it was somewhat disgusting if not a filthy experience.

The lady in front of me bought packs of chicken wrapped in plastics. The barcodes were stuck on the inside of the plastic, but it was stuck in such a way that it can be scanned by the cashier at check out. But the cashier who was scanning them poked his fingers through the plastic, tearing it up and digging out the barcode to scan instead! Imagine he did this to 2 or 3 packs of chicken at by the end of it, his fingers were covered in chicken fats and blood, which he didn’t bother to clean off!

He continued to go about his job to scan other items, bag them and collect money from the shopper. I was so disgusted and was thinking about how I could avoid his dirty fingers touching my stuff. Obviously there was no way that he won’t touch any of my stuff. While thinking all these, I suddenly saw about 5 to 6 baby cockroaches the size of a big fly, crawling out from the cash till and on to the cashier’s counter! There were 2 more the size of small bugs too.

I had a look of horror on my face and when he saw my expression, he used his bare hands to smack the cockroaches and said “Bodoh punya lipas!” (”Stupid cockroach!”) and he continued to do that to a few of those cockroaches crawling about. I had even more look of horror on my face when he did that. Again, he didn’t clean his hands after doing this. The cockroaches didn’t die from his smacking, they just got injured and crawled back into the cash till.

Although my purchase wasn’t much, I decided not to pay by cash as I didn’t want to see how many cockroaches were in that till. I just swiped my credit card, quickly walked away with my shopping bags and wiped my hands with my baby’s wet wipes. I don’t think I want to return to that Carrefour to shop anymore!

i had a veryyyyyyyyy bad experience just now at carrefour mid valley. i was queuing, and i take out rm15 from my pocket. as i was talking to my boyfriend, who was in front of the line, i didn’t realize that my rm10 dropped on the floor. the cashier saw this incident i think, because he kept on doing some weird signals to the guard near by (he was telling the guard to take the money ). instead of alerting me, the guard squatted down, took my rm10.at that time, i didn’t suspect anything.i i was just curious of the guard’s action. of course he went away as quickly a possible after that. i just realized that my rm10 was missing when i handed the money to the damn cashier (who obviously was involved)..the first word that came to me was…SHIT!

I was suspected of shoplifting in carrefour, Mid Valley today. And I was instructed to go to a small “interrogation” room without any explanation. Of course they couldn’t find any evidence at all as I did not shoplift. Anyway I am very disgusted with the security guard’s behavior. When he couldn’t find his suspected “DVDs that I stole” he simply pointed at other item in my bag and asked if I paid for it or not. Those were the stuff in Jusco so I was literally annoyed by his action. When he didn’t has anything to say he blamed me for “putting the DVDs into my bag”. And I didn’t! I was freaked out and literally shaking as I was alone. The most I could do was glare at the person. He sort of gave an apology and just shooed me off. Now I am emotionally distressed by the experience and I swear I am not going to step into Carrefour in Mid Valley ever again! I am really unsatisfied with their attitudes!
