Take a walk around the malls, bazaars and even on the walkways on streets and you’ll most likely find all kinds of stalls offering Raya goodies. From clothes to home decoration to food, it’s all such a colourful and eventful sight, don’t you think?
One of the things that I enjoy shopping for during this period is the Raya cakes and cookies. I don’t normally go for sweet stuff but there are a few Raya cookies that I like. I don’t have a fixed place or vendor to buy from each year. More often than not, we just stop and buy from whichever shop or stall we happen to come across and if the cookies grab our attention.
But maybe because we’re so random at this and not really knowing where to get the recommended cookies from, we always end up not really eating them because they’re not so great in taste. It’s either too sweet for my tastebud or the texture is not good.
But my consistent contention about these cookies is that they are way, way, way too sweet. I can’t imagine finishing even a quarter tub of these cookies. If I do, then it won’t be long before I start having health problems and possibly need weight loss supplements too! You’re probably asking why then do we still continue to buy them…well let’s just say that we never learn and always tend to buy based on the nice packaging they come in and assume that they are good.

You won’t believe it but I bought one box of pineapple tarts from Giant supermarket the other day ! Only RM9.90 and I was a bit reluctant too when I bought it…. saying to myself… “so cheap, the quality should be so-so only”. But, guess what ! Its very nice and the pastry skin is fluffy and literally melts in your mouth. And the pineapple filing are not that sweet either. Just nice ! Will definitely get more cookies from Giant after this encounter.
Oh really?! I never would have thought to try too because I just never had good impressions on their cookies. Maybe we shouldn’t judge too soon
