About a month ago I wrote about the little that I know of on the difference between a facial serum and an essence. I paid a visit to a Body Shop outlet not long after and decided to get a moisture serum, so that meant my choice was narrowed down to the Vitamin E Moisture Serum.
This serum is gel-like in texture and absorbs rather well. I use it in the sequence as suggested by the shop assistant, which is immediately after using a toner on a cleansed face, before any moisturiser is applied. I apply this serum twice, once in the day and once at night.
Other than its hydrating properties, this serum is said to bring about these benefits (quoting Body Shop):
Vitamin E, wheat germ oil and rice bran oil are natural antioxidants that moisturize, nourish and condition skin, while protecting against premature aging and environmental aggressors. Tara bush seed extract contains a matrix of natural molecules which absorb and retain moisture and then release that moisture to the skin to provide both immediate and long-term hydration. Organic Community Trade honey moisturizes and conditions the skin.
Do I find this serum good? I would say it’s alright. I don’t have any major skin condition. I like using hydration products because my skin could get dry quite easily. However, over the years I’ve been able to maintain a normal skin condition most of the time. So this serum didn’t do much in terms of showing me results. I would only say that it continues to keep my skin moisturised.
I am thinking of not continueing with this serum when it finishes simply because I find that it gets used up very quickly. This serum comes in a 30ml bottle, which is the same as my previous serum from Clarins. I keep the same regime, using both serums twice a day. But I find that the Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum lasts me a lot less. I’m just about a month into using this product and I only have a quarter bottle left. Whereas with my Clarins serum, it lasted me a couple of months. A minimum of 3 months, actually.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum retails at RM66, which is about one-third the price of my previous Clarins serum. If I calculate how much use I get out of each, they actually work out to be the same in terms of how much I’m paying for them. If that is the case, I would rather be using the Clarins one which I find better.
