Fans of netbooks will never see one from Apple

by Penny on May 13, 2009

Apple Inc is so adamant (to the point of being arrogant, in my opinion) that it will not want its brand to be associated to netbooks because it deems a netbook as being too low end and unable to support the full Apple experience. Many reports since the end of 2008 saw Apple’s announcement that it will not want to be a player in that category. But I wonder why they came out with a Mac Book Mini!

You may say a Mac Book Mini is by far still more powerful than a netbook, but still it shows that Apple was trying to be in the market to offer a smaller or compact notebooks, right? These days, some netbooks’ specifications are just as good as some regular laptops if not more powerful (compared to my 3-year old laptop!). My mom’s latest Acer netbook has better specifications than my upgraded laptop if that’s any proof to be seen here.

Anyway, I do think that Apple is just being a bit silly to come out so strong to dismiss a potential market that is getting hot in the market. Perhaps they have a clever strategy ahead to introduce something that will be better than netbooks. Who knows? So maybe I should wait and see before I say too much of them.

P/S. Speaking of gadgets, I’ve come to realise that our home has nothing more than computers! There’s one desktop, 3 notebooks, 1 netbook and 1 toy notebook belonging to my almost 2-year old son. I think we can never live without a computer for a day! Powering up so many computers all at one go reminds me of how people who subscribe to Bloomberg use their computers with 2 monitors at once. We’d probably better get a KVM switch to help control all of them at once!
