Ao dai
by Penny on April 8, 2008
Ao dai is the
traditional costume of the Vietnamese. It’s a simple yet elegant long dress that comes in two pieces – a long flowy top with a pair of matching pants.
I’ve seen many ladies putting on the ao dai, some wear simple designs for a casual day out while some have dressier pieces that are worn to evening functions. Unlike many traditional wear like the cheongsam, kimono or the hanbok, ao dai seems more comfortable as it’s not a tight fitting outfit that clings to the body. The fact that it’s simple and easy to wear, it has become quite popular even amongst the non-Vietnamese.
I’ve just been given my very first ao dai. It’s made of silk and it feels so soft to the skin. I love how it falls so easily on me not to mention it’s in my favourite colour – pink!
Here’s a glimpse of the ao dai. I love the glittery designs and little roses made on them. Makes it very pretty and sweet.
