I hope everyone has had a great Chinese New Year celebration. It’s that time of the year where family gathering means a lot to everyone, with good food, joy and laughter all around us. This new year has been very lively for us with the addition of a little one in the family. It’s his second new year. The first new year last year he was still a quiet little baby of 4 months, but now, almost a year and a half, he’s become the most talkative and animated in the family.
As with all new years, exchange of customary gifts is common. A basket of mandarin orange, some arrow root crisps, dried barbequed meat, etc are rather common in most households. We went for a gathering last night and we brought these traditional gifts to the home of the host. There were some guests we met who brought rather unconventional gifts. A group of them brought the host a nicely packaged box of cigars.
During our conversations at dinner, the guests who brought the cigars explained to us that they had bought it from a reputable online seller, Cigars Direct, who offers many different premium brands of cigars. They even offer them for holiday seasons and that’s when the idea of presenting the host with cigars for the new year came about since they knew the host’s liking for lighting up a cigar or two to relax.
Since they knew exactly which brand of cigar to buy, they didn’t have a problem choosing it. They explained that if at all we wanted to buy any from this site and didn’t know any better which brand to go for, we can always opt to purchase gift certificates from the site and present it to the recipient. He or she can then use these certificates to purchase for the preferred brand. How convenient!
