Air Asia X Turns 1 and is giving away free seats to Australia and China

by Penny on November 3, 2008

I’ve always deleted many of the emails sent my way from Air Asia, offering all kinds of promotional fares and the lot, simply because I’ve always considered the deals not quite worth the while. It can be cheap fares alright, but it’s not all-inclusive, which means by the time you add on the additional surcharges and what-have-yous, your discounted price of a RM1 fare could still end up in the many hundreds.

Nevertheless, I have travelled on Air Asia before, some years back during the 1 million free seats giveaway and I did pay some very reasonable amounts for the tickets after all the surcharges were added on. But then again, that was some 2 years back and since then I’ve not booked a single flight with them.

Now, it is Air Asia X that is offering free seats in conjunction with their celebration of the airline turning one. Free seats are available to destinations like Melbourne, Gold Coast, Perth and Hangzhou. They do seem quite attractive if the fuel and administrative surcharges aren’t excessive. The booking of these free seats starts from tomorrow, 4 November till 9 November. Travel period is next year onwards, from August to October 2009.

If you have a AirAsia-Citibank credit card, then you have the advantage to book a free seat a day in advance before the promotion is open to public. If you are a frequent traveller on Air Asia and gamed for cheaper flights, it is quite a good deal to sign up for the credit card.
