I’ve never heard nor remember seeing this health supplement called Chlorella before until yesterday my better half bought a pack home for our son. Then in today’s papers, I saw a write-up about the benefits of Chlorella as well as an advertisement that there will be a forum about this health supplement.
So what is Chlorella? According to the company that imports and distributes this, Abeille d’Or, this is the explanation given on its website.
Chlorella is a natural whole food and not a chemically-synthesized multivitamin product. It is a kind of green algae, like green laver, which are single cell plants propagated. Chlorella lives in fresh water and seawater.
Chlorella is a spherical or oval single cell with the dimension of 2-10 microns (2/1000-10/1000) under a microscope. This green single-cell algae is a rich and balanced source of many nutrients that are essential to health.
The cellular composition of Chlorella differs depending on the propagating environments. However, the common features are that the cells contain large amount of protein and vitamins. As may be seen in the analytical data, the contents of protein and vitamins in Chlorella are extraordinarily higher then those in ordinary vegetables, cereals, milk, yeasts and meats.
Chlorella is known to contain lots of versatile nutrients including protein, chlorophyll, carotene, calcium, other vitamins and nutrients essential to the body. Chlorella has qualitatively good protein contents. Chlorella protein is rich in essential amino acids. More than 20 vitamins and minerals are found in chlorella, including iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B12, biotin, inositol, plus vitamins C and E.

It does seem to be able to address quite a few conditions although some of them seem vague and somewhat unclear to me. I was hoping to find out if it can also be a good supplement for people with low blood pressure. I’m always interested to find natural remedies for it such as ephedra, iron pills and even to consume more red meat. But since I didn’t read anywhere that this Chlorella supplements can specifically help with low blood pressure conditions, I suppose it isn’t a strength in this area.
A pack of this Abeille d’Or Chlorella contains 200 tablets and retails for RM68. Our pack was bought at a Chinese medical hall and it sold for RM58 there. The recommended intake for adults is between to 10 to 15 tablets a day, 4 to 6 a day for children under 12 years of age and for children under the age of 1, it is recommended that 1 Chlorella tablet be disolved and mixed with water or milk to be consumed.
It is also said that the benefits and effects of this wholesale health supplement is normally only felt after 2 months of consistent consumption. I’m still brand new at this, having just seen this supplement for the very first time yesterday, so I can’t comment if it’s truly effective. But I decided to write about it anyway to share what I know so far.
If you have experiences and knowledge to share about this, I would welcome it very much. So will other interested readers!
