A surprise free gift from Hong Leong

by Penny on August 19, 2008

I’ve had a Hong Leong Bank credit card for some time now. I don’t really use the card for my retail transactions. I only used it for two balance transfers and that’s it. Since I don’t use it, I don’t keep up with their promotions.

Recently I received a parcel from them. It’s for some promotion they’re running, something about getting some guaranteed gift if you use the card during the promotion period. I guess one of my balance transfers must have been done during that period and that’s how I unknowingly qualified for the gift.

Are you curious yet what they sent me? This is it…

radio

It’s a sleek looking Retro Radio. It looks quite cool and it sure tries to be as retro as possible in its design. It even comes wit an analog dial for tuning radio frequencies. I like how the top and bottom part of the radio is panelled with solid wood. I was really happy at first glance at this gift until I flipped it to the back.

To my disappointment, this radio does not come with a power adaptor. Instead, it utilises two pieces of lithium tablet batteries AND three AAA batteries. That’s quite a lot of batteries to replace although I do think that the lithium ones will last longer. Still, I figured it’s not very cost effective for me to keep buying batteries to feed this new little toy. So I scrapped my initial idea of putting this display piece in my office for some tune-out moments.

So thanks Hong Leong Bank, but no thanks…I won’t be making much use of this nice-to-look at gift. It’s quite unfortunate…
