I’ve been thinking for a long time whether or not I should give The Face Shop Greentea Blackhead Remover a try. It’s a new product launched not long ago and it’s since been one of the star products of The Face Shop (another of its star product is the Raspberry Roots Sleeping Mask which I will write a review on soon, so stay tuned). I finally decided to give this green tea blackhead remover a try since I often have them.
Don’t be misled by the advertisements you see on this product, where it is skewed towards being a product for men. I asked the store assistant if this is a product for men and was informed that it’s actually unisex. I doubt if their advertising has worked on men, though, because not many men pay attention to skincare products unless they have serious problems like acne.
Anyway, the feature of this blackhead remover is to remove pore clogging debris and serum. On a cleansed face, damp the area of your face that is blackhead prone. Apply an even layer of this white-coloured cream on it. It is mildly scented and is quite pleasant. You need to leave it on for 1 to 2 minutes, after which you need to gently rub it on your skin. According to the store assistant as well as the instructions on the tube, it exfoliates as you rub the cream but I didn’t feel any exfoliator on my skin. Maybe it’s too fine for me to feel it.
When you’re done, wash off the cream. According to the pack’s instruction, you now should cleanse your face with a cleanser. But the store assistant’s recommendation was different, which is to cleanse first. I’m not sure which should be followed. Maybe the instructions on the packaging should be more trusted since we’re uncertain how well the staff are trained for each new product?
It is recommended to be used only once a week. It comes in a tube of 40ml and retails for RM45.90. Seems quite expensive, but if you see results then it might be worth it. I’ve not used this product long enough to see clear results though. I shall use it diligently for a month and see if there is any improvements.
There is a complementary product that comes with this greentea blackhead remover cream. The store assistant recommended me to get the Greentea Blackhead Massage Oil together with the cream. This blackhead remover massage oil is to be used before the cream. Apply a little of this oil on the area you wish to treat for blackhead. Massage it gently. This is supposed to ease the removal of blackheads.

The Face Shop Greentea Blackhead Remover Massage Oil retails for RM39.90. I felt that it is a little on the expensive side and wasn’t sure how much it works to help in easing the blackhead removal process, so I didn’t want to get it.
Give me another month to use this blackhead remover cream and I’ll update on its true effectiveness. Has anyone used this before? Do share with us your results.

Dear Penny,
Would like to know your thoughts after using this product. Does it give any positive effectiveness ? Hope you could share with me how it is being used as well. Thx
Hi Summer. I use this product once a week, like it was recommended by the sales assistant. I described in the post above about how to use it. I found that it works in removing my whiteheads but not so much on the blackheads. On the other hand, my husband uses it too and he finds it great on him. So maybe my blackheads are more stubborn! Hope this information is useful to you.
Hi Penny, I am currently using this product and I find that is great for me. I using it once a week and my blackhead and whitehead is actually been remove well.
As you quoted there “According to the pack’s instruction, you now should cleanse your face with a cleanser. But the store assistant’s recommendation was different, which is to cleanse first.” When I buy this, the store assistant also recommend me to cleanse first then only use the Blackhead remover.
On my two cents opinion, I think this should be the way. Let’s say if our face have dirt but we do not cleanse it first. We will not be able to get rid of the blackhead. Coz been covered by the dust…
BTW, I am actually looking for the essence and serum. Do you have any recommend?
Thanks for sharing, Kelly. What you said made sense. After a while, I find that the product doesn’t really work on me anymore. I still resort to pressing out the blackheads myself
About the essence and serum, I do have some favourites but do bear in mind again that these are only my suggestions based on results on my skin. I find The Face Shop Raspberry Roots Fitting Up Essence and Body Shop’s Vitamin C Skinboost to be really great products!

ps; i went back to The FaceShop .. the promoter said .. it might be because i scrubbed it to harsh =.=
Thanks for sharing your experience of using this product here, Irene. This is a really bad case! Oh dear, it doesn’t sound like a case of harsh scrubbing that caused it…could you really have scrubbed that hard?
Hi Penny, I bought it few months ago and I found that the cream content is a bit weird, I wanna ask is the cream content creamy? cuz mine is like a bit chalky, I wonder is it dried out or it’s like that originally? Thanks for your reply.
btw, I seldom use it cuz I didn’t see any effect on my stubborn blackhead after few try and I’m a bit disappointed cuz I really want to remove my blackhead. so you wrote this post in November 2008, how does it work on you?
Janice, no the texture is not exactly creamy. It’s more like a dry paste which you need to spread over slightly dampened skin area. I have to admit I don’t use it too regularly. Mostly because I didn’t see that much effect in removing my stubborn blackheads too. I suppose if it did a good job I’ll be more diligent in using it
