A recommended Japanese buffet restaurant – Shogun

by Penny on November 10, 2008

I’ve been a patron of Shogun, a Japanese buffet restaurant at 1 Utama for a couple of times now. The most recent visit there was just over the weekend and I have to say that after a long while of not visiting the restaurant, I find vast improvements to the Japanese buffet spread offered. Priced at RM60++ for adults and RM30++ for children during weekend dinners, I find their prices very reasonable for the kind of food served.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I personally found that there were more varieties of food served compared to the previous times that I was there. I also like the fact that they make it a point to have a good presentation of their spread instead of piling out dishes like chicken’s feed whenever they replenish empty dishes. They actually take the time to make sure that the food is presentable.

You can find a variety of dishes from Chinese style cooking to western food like pastas. They also serve a variety of soup from sharks fin (I have to say it isn’t good, too thick with starch), corn soup to cod fish soup. To complete your starters, there’re some interesting cold dishes as well as a good salad bar with a variety of items to choose from. You also have a nice selection of tempura and teppanyaki, as well as a nice array of sashimis and fresh cutlets of raw fishes like salmon, tune, etc. There are also fresh oysters for those who are oyster-lovers. Eat all you can!

Once you are seated, you will also be served a portion of something exquisite. The last time I went, they served baked oyster. This time it was baked prawn with soemthing else that I did not touch because it looked a little too “exquisite” for me.

For dessert, you will find a decent fruit platter and trays of yummy cakes and some jellies too. For ice cream lovers, help yourself to a few delightly flavours from the Kings brand. There’s also some free rounds of drinks to go around including green tea.

If you intend to head over to Shogun during the weekend, do check if you can get yourself a reservation because they are very busy. Walk-ins would probably need to wait in queue and knowing how buffets are, you might need to wait quite a while for a table to be free. And remember to go on an empty stomach!

Eve, where’s Jogoya? I’m quite “behind”, as you can tell! Haha.

Brit, I guess everyone has their own taste and preference…but I do share the same thoughts as you about Shogun :)
